Comment:

Yet another reformatting of older mix discs! And once more, per usual, Disc #1 is highly eclectic. Sometimes, there's a definite bit of oddball stream-of-consciousness going on with some of my song choices. By way of example, Monkey Gone To Heaven by The Pixies is followed up by The Bravery Of Being Out Of Range by Roger Waters, from his Amused To Death album - of which the concept centers around an experimental monkey!

Kicking off the proceedings, however, is a dark and heavy British prog epic from the always-reliable Van Der Graaf Generator (one of my all-time faves!). Also, quite a few covers strewn about the place here and there - nu-metallers Korn doing funkmeisters Cameo, thrash-metallers Anthrax doing new-waver Joe Jackson, and U2 doing an old '70s pop hit from Love Affair (a Rattle And Hum-era B-side, by the way)!

Also, I accidentally violated one of my own rules on Disc #1: No less than two different musicians turn up on two songs on the same disc: Guitarist Robert Fripp and bassist Tony Levin play on both I Don't Remember and Matte Kudasai! Whoops!! But I'm letting myself off the hook with another loophole: If they're actual band members on one track (King Crimson) and merely session players on the other (Peter Gabriel), you can skate by with a warning - provided it doesn't happen again! [*wink*]

If anything, Disc #2 is probably just a tad superior to #1. No Ozzy or Sabbath in this particular volume (Disc 15 or 16), but if you put the closing two titles together (Soundgarden and Yes), you've almost got yourself a homage. (Ha, ha, ha - I seriously crack myself up sometimes!!) Also, ELP and The Sex Pistols incongruously turn up back to back, there's a catchy pop number penned for Cheap Trick by none other than Todd Rundgren (who produced their Next Position Please album), a rocker by the reunited New York Dolls, and another song by a reality-show supergroup!
