Moving to a Different Beat
Part II (1983-2004)
Comment:
Thanks to sammyg123 for recommending track 12 in his comments on someone else's other gay oriented mix. Other songs that were removed from the original mixes (the aotm site being down for days gave me the opportunity to tweek these two mixes more than I usually would before posting): Gertrude Lawrence singing Someone to Watch Over Me (1927), Dexy's Midnight Runners' doing Come on Eileen (1983), The Pointer Sisters singing I'm So Excited (1982), A-Ha's Take on Me (1985), K.D. Lang & Andy Bell or Barbra Streisand & Donna Summer performing No More Tears (Enough is Enough) (1993 or 1979), and Franz Ferdinand's Michael (2004).The picture is of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe from the group Pet Shop Boys.
Feedback:
This is clever and wonderful! Love it.
Great job, Joe, I was going to be disappointed to not see any Pet Shop Boys here! Have you read Greil Marcus' book on "Like a Rolling Stone"? Subtitled 'Bob Dylan at the Crossroads." I was never quite sure what Greil was talking about with that PSB song, I mean, it is great, but I'm not sure what exactly it had to do with Bob. Anyway, great, great job on the mix. "I love you Alice B. Toklas" could work as well, perhaps...
Again this is brimming over with great tunes. There is a CD you might like called From The Closet To The Charts,Queer Noises 1961-1978. It's a real mish mash of gay related songs .
Wow -- something decidedly less "retro" than your usual, Joe. These all work great together.
another winner - the opener is one of my all-time favs
Great double CD set Joe, if I'm totally honest I love every track here ( and on Vol 1 ) - they're just all great pop songs. Especially that solid 9-15 run here..
Well look at you. That Tom Robinson cut was a surprise. Let me tell you something bout Martin. How about some dialogue between George Takei and Artie Lange on the next volume. Don't you dare stop on this series. You got something here.
