Comment:
(For the record, I've finally decided on a title for MIX #50 myself, and I'm going with "All I Wanted Was A Pepsi!!") Anyway, here's MIX #51! Granted, the o-pening pairing of songs on Disc #1 admittedly looks pretty wacky, but I think it works! And this is my second mix in a row to feature a Velvets track with a lead vocal by the lovely Moe Tucker! (Chalk it up to having seen the movie "Juno" recently...) Elsewhere, we've got a pair of Bob Dylan covers, one of them released the same year as the original and the other from the soundtrack of this year's film "I'm Not There," an outtake from the first Queen album, a solo number from Manic Street Preachers frontman James Dean Bradfield, and a late '60s garage-band cover of Buffy Sainte-Marie. And after 43 years and cover versions by Shadows Of Knight, the Doors and Patti Smith, etcetera, Van Morrison and Them's original version of "Gloria" still remains the best! I would also like to dedicate several numbers to my fellow AOTM posters who were kind enough to suggest them: On Disc #1, Track #10 goes out to KathrynandRupert, #11 & 12 go out to Doowad and Captain Hi-Top (whose advice I heeded regarding putting the Chili Peppers and Nirvana back to back), and on Disc #2, Track #11 also goes out to the good Captain! Please keep those helpful suggestions coming in, for I will follow them when I can! :-)Feedback:
Added to my favorites list, really good selection.
Yay, Lucifer Sam is in the Pazuzu house. Liking that Mamas & Papas track.
For the last week or so I've been listening to this mix, and there's definitely more to it than meets the eye.
Though I find the opening tracks of disc one a little disjointed (are there any two bands more different than Metallica and the Mamas & Papas?) tracks three and four are absolutely sublime. U2 and Thin Lizzy! The connections are obvious, but it never hit me until I put the head phones on. After a burner by Monster Magnet, we come to the high point of the mix for me: the songs by The Who, The Stones, and Slade mesh into pure rock n' roll decadence.
Disc two is a little weaker (in my opinion) than disc one, but I discovered two jewels I had never heard before. Mott The Hoople's "Sweet Jane" and Queen's "Mad The Swine." Great songs. Thanks Darth!
Darth Pazuzu works fast and submits alot of mixes, but what keeps me checking out his work are the two and three songs segments that I would have never thought of. Like The Pretenders "My City Was Gone" leading into the Mott The Hoople track. That's cool.
