Comment:
Well, here's my latest offering of Pazuzu Pizza Pie! This time around, it's mostly my usual trademark classic/prog/hard rock/metal melange, but this time around I've thrown in a little '60s gem from the Rhino Nuggets box, and no less than four proto-goth/punk offerings (from Nico, Joy Division, the Cure and Siouxsie - I think that KathrynandRupert just may approve!). I had the brainstorm of putting It's Cold Outside (a number covered by late punk-rocker Stiv Bators, by the way) back to back with Boys Don't Cry, and I personally think it works rather well. (But certainly feel free to disagree.) For the longest time, I wanted to include Nico's It Was A Pleasure Then (which, FYI, originated as a live Velvet Underground improv called Melody Laughter), but I wasn't exactly sure how well it would fit. I eventually decided to place it before Soundgarden's Mind Riot because I think that the o-pening guitar lick of that song almost feels like an extension of the Nico song, modally speaking. Has anyone ever heard Bob Dylan's Isis? Well, on the Biograph 3-CD box set (from '85), there's a rip-roaring, rollicking live version that's seriously smoking. I mean it! Mick Ronson plays some scorching lead guitar, Scarlet Rivera rocks out on the violin, and Dylan himself just belts out the lyrics like the young Joe Strummer. I'm telling you, if you haven't heard it before, it's an absolute must-hear! Elsewhere, former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan does a Dylan cover (I'm on a serious Dylan kick these days!), while Mott The Hoople cover an old Melanie Safka number. I also included an early '80s rock radio classic which from this point onward will probably be forever associated with the Sopranos series finale! And this time around, I've got no less than three artists making two appearances on Disc #2! But as before, the songs are segued pairings, so it's not really cheating...[*wink*]Feedback:
I think you know us too well. You've told us what we'd like and you're right. I'll add that I like the two Pink Floyd songs (can't speak for Kathryn though) the Beatles and the Choir, both of which Kath would approve.
Happy to see you're still plugging along in 2008. This could be the year of the Pazuzu. I approve of the Choir too -- and some vintage Police.
