Comment:

Many moons ago, I ended a 6-month sabbatical from Art of the Mix with this, whose title was inspired by the newspaper from my Grandpa's home county. As I said then and still believe now, the World needs more Unterrified Democrats. But please don't take me too literally, I am referring to any manufacturer of dairy products...

I eventually passed over what would have been the 4th volume, which would have been chocked full of Woody, Dylan, Earle, etc. and focused on Injustice. I never could quite connect with the concept, so I moved on to volumes which dealt with the Apocalypse, the Devil (is 6) and God (is 7).
However, after watching the debate tonight in California, this mix hit me. I am not normally a rah-rah guy and that is probably why the concept of UD 4 felt disingenuous to me. In fact only the first track and the Billie tune are left from the original "concept". In terms of my own politics, the protest line that I most identify with is "the Titanic sails at dawn."But I think Obama seems like he possibly, maybe, for our sake, could be the answer to my query.
Posdata: Kudos to RetroJoe for his Obama mix from a couple weeks ago.

my father forwarded me an email (in earnest) that said that Islamic extremists have pledged to take over and destroy America from the inside out--and that, if Muslim-educated Barack Obama becomes president, they will have achieved their objetive. I'm a terrified Democrat whenever I think of my parents stepping into a voting booth. I also become a terrified Democrat when I imagine that the Clintons could take over the country (world) again. I find it incomprehensible that two families can keep passing the White House back and forth between them for a quarter of a century--all in the name of "experience" and because it's easy for people to remember their names. oh yeah, your mix. love the Rainmakers and Arlo Guthrie--and the opener, of course.

I'll never get US politics despite numerous attempts. Maybe I need to try harder because it impacts on us all.
I get a heap of these tunes though, the two Guthrie's being my highlights.

He seems like a capable fellow. Tony Blair was too, for a while. Strange Fruit is a fab song.

"None of the Above" has been and will continue to be the only choice worth making, I'm afraid. But, not when it comes to finding a fine mix, thank goodness. As I can always pull switch on any of your mixes and come up aces.

Don't know much about American politics, but I reckon I know a good tune when I hear one. And there's an abundance to be heard here. 5-9 is jus' fine..

I'm a Groucho Marxist, I refuse to vote for anyone who would want to be in office.
Haven't heard the Rainmakers in eons. Ditto everyone on the Billie tune.

It's interesting how people from other countries fail to understand our politics, yet those of their homeland make sense. As a US citizen, I often find myself just as perplexed by the way they do things "over there." Understanding them, however, doesn't mean you like them. Too many well-intentioned people are caught up in the unwieldy political process. Like the mixer here, I hold out hope that Obama can make a difference. And a fine stack of tunes there is with which to contemplate that hope.

I'm considering McCain myself, but I can't blame anyone who would pass on him due to Bush fatigue. Obama does seem genuine - and the attacks on his character thus far have been amazingly lame - but I agree with too little of his ideology to consider him.
