Comment:

This mix is intended to be an ode to the prolific mixer g.a.b. l@bs.

While I have always been a huge fan of atmospheric elements in my music, I have always shied away from electronic flourishes in favor of a more standard rock approach. That is until after I was privileged to hear his amazing
arctika mix. That mix was absolutely mind blowing to me and opened up all sorts of musical possibilities. So I set about the task of finding as much ambient and drone music that excited me as I could, and this is just a sample of what I came up with. Now keep in mind however, that this is not all straight ambient or drone as I still wanted to keep this mix something that had a little of my own mixing style as well. Therefore you will find some shoegaze type sounds as well.

When thinking about how g.a.b. l@bs works his magic, I thought of the great astronomer and alchemist Tycho Brahe who championed the philosophy of Despiciendo suspicio ("By looking down I see upward") and Suspiciendo despicio ("By looking up I see downward"). Tycho was trying to prove a relationship between macrocosm and microcosm or that by studying the heavens you will learn about how the world around us works and by studying the earth closely it will be easier to understand the heavens. How does this apply to our friend g.a.b. l@bs you ask?

Well through his alchemy (mix making) he has been taking us to far off soundscapes and places that boggle the imagination. This is just my way of saying thanks.

Wow...thanks...I'm (almost) speechless. I appreciate the effort that went into this and am downloading it now.

I looked up your mix's title on Google Image Search & came up with this, a painting of Brahe (to which I added your play-list):

this is a real nice gesture, and a terrific mix as well--perfect remedy for yesterday's stress at work. loved the Jatun, Ulrich Schnauss, Hammock and Grouper tracks. Grouper sounded a little like listening to My Bloody Valentine with pillows over my ears.
