Comment:

This mix was inspired by living two blocks from the zoo. When we sit on our back porch or in the backyard it is not uncommon to hear the sounds of the animals coming across summer breezes. We regularly hear the lions, elephants, hyenas, peacocks and other exotic birds. This past year we heard some new really loud and crazy sounds. It turned out that they installed a new outdoor monkey exhibit. A new family moved in next door last summer and were absolutely stunned the first time they heard an elephant in heat.

Walking through the zoo and having animals stare at you. This mix is about people and animal traits interacting . but not necessarily elephants in heat.

Simon & Garfunkel start this off nicely but things quickly get strange with David Byrne's animal insight and that's where it goes until finally Laura Nyro's animal rights plea.

Love it! I think you should add... "Talkin' Dirty to the Animals" by Gilda Radner.

All I can hear from my back porch is the neighbor screaming at her kids. Really like the Cramps, Pixies, REM, and Pernice Bros tracks!

That must be pretty interesting living that close to the zoo. I really like the Buffalo zoo. They had some really cool polar bears the last time I was there. Great mix as well , by the way.

I'm a hippo man myself. No songs about them I see but plenty about elephants and monkeys. Uncage them and let them roam. Great mix, despite lack of hippos, especially XTC, Talking Heads, Soft Boys and Pixies.

Hmmm... I forgot about the hippos. I could have dropped a couple of monkeys for a hippo and I got a couple of hippo songs that would have worked well here. Yo La Tengo's Tired Hippo and Cloud Cult's Happy Hippo would have fit in nicely. Some Animal Collective would have worked too. I was surprised at how many animal songs I had available but of course they had to sound just right together. Maybe a part two.

Very nice concept. I last visited a zoo while traveling to Minneapolis a couple years back. Brings back memories of childhood. I do miss Laura Nyro dearly. I saw her often when I lived in the Northeast.

Damn Fine indeed. Great opener of course, but loved 3, 19-21 the last 2 and the mOnkey songs. My favoutite animals at the zoo are the Meerkats but there's not many songs about them regrettably..

Awwwwwwwwww-some! (Be sure to obtain a parking token upon arrival, or they'll never let you out!) I love this. It made me think of The Dickies and Thai Elephant Orch., but that does not detract from your fabulous endeavour!

P.S.

Is Mondo Video still open?

SwankQueen & Karen,
Mondo Video is still open... barely. Maybe another month or so. Too bad. I'm usually on that block a couple times a week. It has some of my favorite places -Amy's Place, Ming Cafe, Talking Leaves, Lake Effect Diner and of course Shango.
