Comment:

About MIX #56, well...what can I say? I kind of made it up as I went along, with only a list of songs that I wanted to include and merely a vague notion of how to arrange and structure them. In my humble (ha!) opinion, however, I think it holds together reasonably well.

I always thought it would be really cool to put AIC's Over Now and Nirvana's All Apologies back to back as the two closing numbers of a mix. You know, kind of a salute to two of the fallen of '90s rock. To be honest, however, I wasn't always sure what order to put them in - Alice first then Nirvana, or Nirvana first, then Alice. I ultimately decided to go with AIC first and Nirvana second. Hope you approve!

As far as the o-pening numbers are concerned, I always wanted to put the NY Dolls and Hanoi back to back, and the two songs I se-lected are the first tracks from their most recent post-"comeback" discs!

Even though I didn't plan it that way, I found it really cool the way Led Zeppelin's Fool In The Rain just naturally led into the Beatles' cover of Buck Owens' Act Naturally (as sung by Ringo). I mean, both of them being about sad and lonely guys and all! :-)

Also, purely for trivia's sake, would anyone like to explain the connection between Tracks #4 & 5 on Disc #1 (ha, ha)?

As far as the overall atmosphere (or unifying vibe) is concerned, it's kind of on the uneasy side, a peculiar mixture of rage, decadence, apocalypse, melancholy - leavened here and there by odd glimpses of sunshine through the glowering thunderheads. Even though Ozzy and Dylan close out Disc #1 on kind of a dark note, we do have one of Yes' trademark hopeful epics leading off Disc #2!

Oh, I almost forget! Here's a sneak preview of what's coming up on Disc #1 of MIX #57 (and you didn't even have to ask!):
1. Queen - One Vision (1986)
2. Ozzy Osbourne - I Don't Wanna Stop (2007)
3. John Lennon (w / Elton John) - Whatever Gets You Thru The Night (1974)
4. James Dean Bradfield - Run Romeo Run (2006)
5. Ricky Nelson - Lonesome Town (1958)
6. Mink DeVille - She's So Tough (1977)
7. Boston - Feelin' Satisfied (1978)
8. Bob Dylan - Lay Down Your Weary Tune (1963)
Well, that's all I've completed so far! My plan is to conclude Disc #2 with Thin Lizzy's Black Rose (1979), because I just think that's a great closing number. I'm also planning to fit the Beatles' Strawberry Fields Forever (1967) and Motorhead's Orgasmatron (1986) in there somewhere. Anyway, aside from that, I really don't have a clue as to what I'm going to include, so feel free to make recommen-dations! :-)

A sneak preview of what's coming up on the next mix? You're a hoot Mr Pazuzu, make no mistake. Lots of songs I like here, lots I don't. Great opener - nice Manics blast from the (my) past...

Totally approve of closing with AIC and Nirvana, (I would have put AIC first as well) Use the motorhead and the beatles tracks back to back. That could be interesting......

The RATM track leading into MM appears to be an interesting transition.

Can't say I love all the tracks on your mixes, but I have great admiration for your fervor and positive attitude, two things I tend to lack from time to time. Keep up the good fight.

oh. I was going to guess that Annie Lennox is actually also Marilyn Manson (I once read that they've NEVER been seen together in the same place!) but it seems gabechouinard beat me to it with a more likely answer. nice mix, and I think Nirvana makes a good closing track.
