Comment:

I have to write an informative speech and the topic I chose was mixtaping. My rough outline as of today is as follows:
/
Introduction /
Body I: History of Cassette Culture /
Body II: Flow and why it's important (I obviously have none above) /
Body III: How mixtapes affect my life and others /
Body IV: Why mixtaping is important to culture and society /
Closing Paragraph: With a Thurston Moore quote, of course.
/
I am using Thurston's book, "Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture" along with Rob Sheffield's "Love is a Mix Tape: Life and Loss, One song at a Time." There will also be some references to AOTM, LastFM, and this article in the New York Times called "or the Mix Tape, A Digital Upgrade And Notoriety" by David F. Gallagher.
/
I will use allusions to "Avenue Q's" Mixtape song and Charlie's mixtape "One Winter" in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."
/
Sorry for the quotations where there should be italics, but you know, i don't know HTML. Anyway, That's my summary and now I will ask you for help: If you have any further reading suggestions or websites or anything, tell me. Also, comment if you think there is anyhting else I need to include in my spiel. Thank you a ton in advance if you leave me a word of advice.

Love is a Mixtape - Rob Sheffield. The whole last bit is a beautiful meditation on the metaphor of a mixtape, and the differences between the way we listen to music in the digital age and how we used to in the cassette era.Sara
