Comment:

There are certainly many who would contend the words white reggae constitute an oxymoron. I disagree. If there can be quality "white rap" (Eminem), then why not white reggae? Granted, there's not much of it, and I rue the day Bradley Nowell passed on depriving us of what probably would have been the best work from Sublime.

The songs on this mix are my favorite reggae songs by "white" artists. I left off anything by Sublime because, well . I forgot about them until the mix was in the can, so to speak. It would have been hard choosing just one of their songs. On purpose, "White Reggae Troll" by Devendra Banhart was left out, even though it seemingly fits the bill. I don't want to say this too loudly around here, but I don't like anything of Banhart's never mind that song.

It would be interesting to hear about some other possibilities for a volume 2, which will include Sublime.

Quiz: To win a free copy including artwork, answer me this: Which artist roped in reggae masters Sly & Robbie to provide the reggae beats on the track?

You're right, It's its own thing. Nice pickins. Ween (Nicole?) and Patti Smith (Redondo Beach) come to mind for next time...

Actually, Matisyahu didn't come to mind with Sly & Robbie. I was thinking of a different track. Anybody else want to give it a shot?

Reminds one that white reggae needn't be a pejorative term. Although I would have to be honest and say I think Dreadlock Holiday is abysmal.

I'm by no means a big reggae fan but I do like this, well done! Yeah, agree about Banhart however, which won't please my bro-in-law, sorry Barry.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists' "The Unwanted Things" would fit nicely here, I think. Love the Police pick and love love love the Costello choice. Great concept.

What Clash track is that? The one on the US release of "the Clash?"
