Blue Rodeo is one of the most successful and well known contemporary Canadian bands, having released 11 studio albums, one live album, a greatest hits collection and a DVD. Though they are a veritable institution in their home country, they have no more than a cult following outside Canada. That does not diminish the fact that this band has been one of the top roots/rock ensembles and continues to put out quality music.
Blue Rodeo's core is still intact and consists of original members Jim Cuddy (guitar/vocals), Greg Keelor (guitar/vocals) and Bazil Donovan (bass). Cuddy and Keelor started playing music together in high school and have continued unabated.
The band has been very much involved in activist causes, primarily with the plight of Native Leonard Peltier, who has been a political prisoner in the USA since 1976. They are also very much a part of The Stein Valley Voices for the Wilderness Festival, which was designed to draw attention to the issues of wilderness preservation and the concerns of native groups, The Trans-Canada Trail Society, and Artists Against Racism.
I saw Blue Rodeo live for the first time last year while on a trip to the DC Metro area. They were touring in support of their latest album "Small Miracles," which is highly recommended. This mix compilation consists of unreleased live songs, b-sides and one-off songs with other artists. I hope you enjoy the rarities from this band.
Quiz: What is the name of the band started by Curry and Keelor in high school (pre-Blue Rodeo)? To the winner goes a copy of this disc with full artwork.

Feedback:
They do good stuff, I especially like Photograph and 5 Days in May.
Haven't seen senatorhung around the site lately but he was a fan of Blue Rodeo.

was it the swallows?
Close. The drummer has a spin-off band called The Swallows.
I was once going to do a comp dedicated to Canadian bands but I'm glad I didn't as these guys were way off my radar.
The HiFis?
I love Blue Rodeo, and they're playing SXSW this year.

We have a winner - kmbone. Congrats!
unknown to me but judging by the company they keep, worth investigating.
Great band (and really great live.) Love track 12, Better Off As We Are is a personal fav tune of mine.
Nothing more Canadian than these guys... well maybe the Tragically Hip. Nice mix.
About all I know of them is the "Five Days In July" album, but "Five Days In May" is one of my all-time favorite songs.
bravo, bravo !!!
thanks to mixxer for pointing this mix out to me.
very nice work with the cover art as well ;)

oops, got carried away with the return button . . . I meant to add that I will check them out though . . .
So much music, so little time.
Hardly a half finished bottle of inspiration. Going to Montreal next week, and like the lilt of that tune by this band.
thanks for the comment on my latest mix.
any chance of arranging a trade for a copy of your blue rodeo mix ?

Have spent the last 42 minutes online tring to get my hands on Blue Rodeo with Melissa McClelland singing "Tell Me Your Dreams" -- NPR played it and it only seems to be available N of the border. I could have driven to Canada by now almost . . . would love to hear that and this mix. =-)
