Hits Before Your Mother Was Born, Part I
Comment:
Songs from 1899-1922, with the exception of track 18, which I used as a lead into the original track upon which it was based. The frog in the cartoon was found by a construction worker inside a cornerstone of a building that was being demolished in 1955. The building was originally built in 1892, but the singing frog that emerged inexplicably knew songs that came after that date, including the featured song of Hello My Baby. Sorry for the quality of track 19, but it is the oldest song included and the sound of songs from the late 1800s in general is often unlistenable (why I only used this song from that period). This part of the mix has an average year value of 1912.27 and is 64m32s in length.
These two mixes are dedicated to Mixxer who encouraged me to go even further back when I posted a mix of 1925 music 6 months ago and stated that that would probably be as far back as I'd go...

Feedback:
Hits before even my dad was born (except for 1955). Astounding. I was going to challenge you to dig up something from the 19th century but I see you've done that already. You really live up to your name.
way to go retro joe - thanks for giving us the radiohead's and britney spears's from yesteryear!
I love it. This mix makes me feel so much younger.
Love this project, Tunes of thi vintage can be a challenging listen, I think the farthest I go back is the Louis Armstrong & the Hot Fives records from '25-26.
Talk about going back to the roots! I think you've now taken retro about as far as it can possibly go - what next?
Astonishing !
Wow, I am floored! First of all, thanks for the dedication, Joe.
There is that cylinder preservation work that has turned a lot of the old recordings into MP3s, but their audio quality is variable to say the least. So with a combination of sorting and cleanup and judicious selection you have created the cream of the crop. Excellent work.

certainly not the usual AotM fare. we had lots of fun listening to these at work today. favorites on this one are the entire #2 to #9 run, #10/#11, #17 and the "Hello, Ma Baby" duo. How I'd love to have lived at a time when a song like "National Emblem March" could reach #9 on the 'pop' charts!
Can you imagine going earlier than Edison?
A Peerless accomplishment, Joe.
