Synthesizers were all the rage in 1984, and their sound firmly anchors many of the era's songs to that period. From the primitive drum machines on Prince's "When Doves Cry" to the synth washes in "Ghostbusters," to the rhythmic arpeggios of Madonna's "Lucky Star," those performers just loved them keyboards.
