Not only was Deep Purple blessed with more than one fierce frontman; the band also racked up a string of stunning guitarists even after six-string sorcerer Ritchie Blackmore split the scene. That’s former James Gang fret-wrangler Tommy Bolin tearing a Stratocaster-sized hole in “Comin’ Home,” and Dixie Dregs deity Steve Morse taking the band into the 21st century with the fleet-fingered instrumental “The Well-Dressed Guitar.” But in the midst of all these guitar giants, we can’t leave out the Hammond-slamming heart of the Deep Purple sound, Jon Lord, whose head-spinning organ overdrive on “Hard Lovin’ Man” packs more crunch than a potato chip factory.
