Comment:

72 minutes. This is a mix of songs sung partly or entirely in French, by singers
whose primary language is not French.

The Krolls' frontlady Masha Andreychikova is Russian. So is Regina Spektor,
but Regina grew up in New York. Avril Lavigne is an Anglophone Canadian.
The rest of the gang are Yanks, Brits, or Aussies, nationalities not known for
interest or skill in second languages.

April March gets a lot of practice, since she performs regularly in French, as do her fellow New Yorkers
Les Sans Culottes.
On the other hand, some are just giving it a shot.
I am no expert, but it sounds to me like most of them do quite well
with their French!

That was "most," not "all."
The famous voice of
Sarah Vaughan
gets noticeably faint
on the French lines.
The Sonny and Cher duet is obviously constructed to limit Monsieur to just a few words.
And Avril surely inspires her young fans to new heights of foreign language proficiency by
keeping English for certain key phrases, such as "I'm the motherf**kin' princess."

As for Sonic Youth,
one reviewer noticed that
Thurston is "just singing random things that sound like the original song."
He's doing Fake French!

½Oh mon Dieu! Comme on va s'amuser sur scFne avec cette chanson.+

The all-time lame-French song I think would have to be "Michelle" (ma belle), perhaps followed by that "voulez-vous coucher avec moi" song, but you do have the great French-Canadian Lorne Greene doing "Ringo" which I bet is even better in French than in English. I would love to take this to French class!

Fairport convention does it for me most here, but there are a couple of other corkers . . . . that ELO album (Time?) was the last album I bought on Vinyl . . . 'attonnez toi as ton reves' or something similar isn;t it ?!

How about Reconnez Cherie by Wreckless Eric? As Eric sounds dodgy in English his French is tres mal.
Bit like mine. Love to hear that Frenchmen version of Les Sucettes. France Gall covers are always cool; you should hear her sing in German, I think that language suits her voice better than her own.

Neat idea and execution. No "Michelle" or "Psycho Killer" (I only ask that because those are the two that sprang to my mind immediately)?

Neat mix. I love that SY cover... makes me laugh since I can understand french. Also digging the Fairport Convention, Sarah Vaughan and Kylie Minogue songs.
I don't know if you've heard of Eux Autres but they're a band from Portland who have a few songs in sung in french. And its really good too. It would definitely work on this mix.

Haven't heard anything about it... But what a bummer if that's true. Their last album was truly magnificent and I haven't even seen them live... :/ On a lighter note: Digging this quite a bit! 2, 7, 12, 14 & 17 are highlights for me. :)

The McGarrigles would have been a worthy addition here but french is their second language so I'm not sure if that qualifies. Nice idea.

this looks great, Mixxer - a real neat idea. I'd love to hear it! if you're planning a sequel, you're welcome to borrow my Al B. Sure "Nite and Day" 7" single, which has him doing the song in French on the b-side.

That bit about Thurston is hilarious. Nice inclusions here, especially (for me) the Regina Spektor - a couple of hers would've fit the theme.

J'adore. Wish I could sing in English, let alone en Francais.
