Comment:

Some of my favorites and the tracks that I feel most represent him. Mostly from THe Essential, unless otherwise stated. Mendecino County Line is a good song, but there were other songs from the album The Great Divide that I thought were much better.

Though I am reminded of a review of The Essential in which the reviewer basically says that Shotgun Willie is a more essential song the The Highwayman. It is a good song, but Highwayman is definitely superior musically and lyrically.

I don't know...I may have to side with said reviewer where "Shotgun Willie" is concerned. Great collection! There's several of my favorites missing but Willie's got such a varied catalog it would be impossible to include them all. 2 thru 5 are certainly among my top picks here.

it would be hard for me to believe definitive without My Own Peculiar Way but funky has it right. You got I Never Cared For You so I'm not going to complain.
