Comment:
Today is the fifth anniversary of the start of the Bush Iraq war. Since I couldn't take part in the anti-war demonstrations in Washington DC I thought I'd post another anti-war mix in my Not In My Name series.I won't get into the oil commentary like the last mix but will say that the lead up to the war in Iraq was a very well documented decade long process by the neocon Bush puppeteers looking for an excuse to invade.
With that said. we are there. We devastated the country. It is our war. We owe it to the troops and the people of Iraq to finish it and get out. No permanent bases. No special oil contract deal. Just get out. The question is how.
People say we need to stop looking back at the start of the war and rehash the past. Bullshit. The bush administration must be held accountable. There were gross errors in judgment and stunning incompetence. There were lies and deception. It will take decades to repair the damage of the bush legacy of failures. We have to know how it all happened so it is not repeated. The first thing is to make sure Bush, Cheney, Rice, McCain, republicans, neocons, chichenhawks, etc have nothing, ever, to do with any future decisions concerning Iraq or anything else. They blew it and generations of Americans and Iraqis will pay for it.
So here is another collection of music that expresses our collective anger at gross goverment incompetence.
Listen or
download.
Read it or repeat it.
Feedback:
George, I am absolutely loving these mixes, even though I'm not getting them until long after they're posted. :) Still, some thought-provoking listens. Cheers!
I'm suffering with you and your goverment
Big sigh. Tears. Been listening to the other mixes a lot. And the Phil Ochs song "I Ain't Marching Anymore."Thanks for the artistic expression of outrage.
Mix and comments both perfectly put. Ta!
Outstanding mix George. What exactly has been achieved thus far? Bush scares the shit out of me. The British government's support of the Bush administration is one the reasons I split from the UK to France.
Great series - keep 'em coming!! Bush can (and is) still doing a hell of a lot of damage before he's indicted.
this is a really consistently great series, george - the dead kennedys, arcade fire, clash & matthew sweet are some favs here
Listening to some of these apocalyptic end-days tunes reminds me that some of those fools in power actually do look forward to a literal Armageddon, - scary thought. A great series, these.
This is some great, great stuff here, George. Keep 'em coming.
Strong mix through and through - especially those closing two.
Hear, hear. I like this series a lot. Be prepared, however, for a certain "human being" (he sometimes uses his own name but often chooses new, one-off monikers for these sorts of things) to unleash a bunch of foaming-at-the-mouth bullshit (often accompanied by a bunch of Biblical "quotes") for making it.
"what the world needs now, is love sweet love".... I'm flashing back to the '60s. As brother Tome says, "practice peace".
Hell, leaving England for France French Connection, that's extreme. I like to think Blair's view on the war is in the minority in this country. I'm not a blind patriot though, if I ran the world I'd take advice from that song Imagine (even though that record is a load of hypocritical smugness) and abolish countries, and religion too. BTW what a great 10,000 Maniacs song.
You know I love all this stuff, G-Sphere...Nader adroitly pointed out very recently that the Governor of NY was found to have spent some money on prostitutes and within two days, the uproar chased him from office, yet Bush and Cheney lied in order to get us into a war, and today, with 100,000 dead Iraqis and close to 5,000 dead Americans, no one's really serious about holding THEM accountable for THEIR actions. If it weren't so true, it'd be almost funny...Keep fighting the good fight...Great mix!
K&R are correct on Blair's views, for the record- biggest peacetime protest EVER back in March 03. But you don't need to be a radical liberal to look at Iraq and think 'Yeah, maybe not a great idea.' Bush is either lying through his ass or in another world, or both. Great music anyway G, love the Arcade Fire-SY duo.
Latest story about Dick Cheney: He was asked about the opinion polls overwhelmingly stating that the Iraq war was a mistake. The response, "So."
Great series, great picks . . . (I don't feel qualified to comment on American politics, so I won't bother, but I do feel qualified to comment on world politics. I am appalled and embarrassed about the actions of the western world of late . . . the war in Iraq, the Middle East Peace Process (!!), Tibet and how we let China do what they want etc etc etc)did I say great picks, by the way . . . Generals gathered in their masses indeed !
Wow, I have been off this site for a couple of weeks and came back this morning doing a search on george metadata to steal some ideas for an R&B mix and was totally freaking out when my search didn't turn anything up! Now I see you have changed your name and added new mixes in my favorite series on this website! I can't wait to check them all out. Fiasco was a great book - No End in Sight is a great documentary in the same vein. I am wondering, since the new series is titled Not In My Name if Kris Kristofferson's In The News is eventually going to be featured. That is an amazing song. I can't wait for the next mix :)
