Comment:
The final installment of a specially-comissioned project for the lovely and talented talia j, one of my earliest supporters here at my AotM Home Away from Home. Her request (she called it a "proposition"): "an educational mix--in this case, artists you suspect I'm not listening to/familiar with and should be, using tracks off whichever albums of theirs you think I should start with." More extensive notes can be found on Discs 1 & 2; album titles and dates to be supplied when I have more time to type them. Again, thanks to SwankQueen for introducing me to Buck 65, Raymond Scott and to track 15. [Note: Revised on 4/17/08.]Feedback:
nice bookends.
It looks educational! About half and half stuff I know and love, and stuff I'm not (very) familiar with!
Great series Rob.
What a comissioned project this turned out to be! I love the challenge/proposition mixes between friends. My favourites here are Kraftwerk, Buck 65, Roxy Music and Drive-By Truckers. Ta for this.
I agree with DJ Karen Adams. Kraftwerk, Buck 65 and Roxy Music are my favourite picks too. Although not my thing at all, I kinda like that Divine Comedy tune - a bit like tindersticks on happy pills. And apart from Tim Buckley, The Slits (whose cover of "I heard it..." is the only thing I've heard of theirs) and Hank Williams I don't thing I know anything else. Again, what does one have to do to hear your mix?
The opener and the whole 7-15 run delight me.
White Car In Germany.....takes me back over 25 years to when I used to sing along to it in a strangulated voice. This is very fine stuff.
Fine mix, the Tim Buckley tune is my fave amongst this collection.
This has been a very cool series.
a fitting capper to a rather excellent & cool series - 3, 4, 5, 8, 15 & 17 are favorites - i've been recommended the divine comedy from quite a few people lately, maybe it's time i check them out...
Stupendous all around!
Nice ending to a top-notch series!
Interesting combos, Fisherman into Radioactivity and such. A wonderful intro to artists I have heard too little from.
A terrific series Rob. Not a bad track in sight. Talia - consider yourself educated! 1,4,7,10 and of course 13 are my Perfect 10s here..
I'm sure you're used to being "propositioned," handsome Rob. This one appears to have more obscure artists that the previous ones. Interesting. I am so on to you ;)
love it, esp stretch 4-8
Great stuff but interested to see a Kraftwerk tune in this context... what a great Kraftwerk song it is tho!
Anything with Neko Case on it works for me. Checking back on the others in the series for sure.
This looks fantastic. talia j's gonna have enough great music to last for 10 years! I love the Tim Buckley song.
crikey Rob, your hobby is a labour of love . . . I hope that the recipient is suitably thankful of all your hard 'work' ;-)
I'm seriously looking forward to this -- the only track I've actually heard before is "Dinner Music," there are maybe two other artists who I've be able to recognize and name if played to me, and then you've got a handful I've never even heard of, which is always exciting.
Of course, the only problem with this whole exchange of ours is that it's statistically impossible for me to come up with anything of equal magnitude and fantasticness. (Hush, you -- I'm ill, I'm sleep-deprived, I declare that to be a word.) I guess I'll have to learn to live with the humility of knowing my efforts to be inferior. ;)
Thanks again -- this whole project looks amazing.

I waited on the 5th instalment before listening. I'll report back later. Looks great though. And I really need to get a mix done soon.
That Gene Clark tune is one of my all-time favorites ever since you first played it for me.
YOU are a M.F.ing music god. THANKS for sharing and unleashing all of this fantastic tripped out bombastic greatness. Seriously, this is really an absolutely incredible mix. Thanks.
