Comment:
Well, overall I think it's perhaps a little better than my last mix, #69. I know that for #70 I ought to make something a little extra-special (or at least as extra-special as I know how to make, anyway)!Well, I don't really have all that much to say, so I'll just glance over some of the highlights. Hmmmmm, let's see...this time around we've got: The Beatles o-pening and closing the show by way of their psychedelic al-ter egos...Marilyn Manson covering Screamin' Jay Hawkins...a Police B-side...The Monkees' Mickey Dolenz fussing over the contents of his personal ad...a lilting Black Sabbath instrumental with acoustic guitar and harpsichord(!)...a Van Halen/Jump-style hard-rock anthem (complete with synth hook) from Japanese metal gods Loudness...Yes making time fly with former Buggles Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes...two ballads sung by Chris Cornell (one from Soundgarden, one from Audioslave)...the mighty Metallica channeling H.P. Lovecraft...an encore with Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash performing a duet...and a whole heck of a lot more!
It may interest you to know that with the New York Dolls' Lonely Planet Boy, I have made my sixth "elimination"! Yes, that's right, folks! I have now used up six albums' worth of songs! Namely: Van Der Graaf Generator's Pawn Hearts (1971) and Still Life (1976), MC5's High Time (1971), Yes's Close To The Edge (1972) and Going For The One (1977)...and now New York Dolls (1973)!
