Comment:

"Old age is no place for sissies." -Bette Davis [b. April 5, 1908 - d. October 6, 1989] yep, it's another actress tribute mix. ever since some friends invited me to an evening of double-feature classic films based on short stories by W. Somerset Maugham [Lewis Milestone's "Rain" and William Wyler's "The Letter"] during my first year of college in '87, Bette Davis has been one of my favorites. Never much of a movie-goer before that fateful night, I was completely fascinated by the two films and returned the following evening to watch them both again. from there, I began watching many films both old and new, ultimately developing a passion for cinema that still thrives today. Bette Davis started it all, and today is her 100th birthday, so here's a mix to celebrate. You can read all about the life and career of Ruth Elizabeth Davis [aka. Bette Davis] here.
When it comes to Davis' musical career, my advice is to avoid it (this mix will show why), but as for her acting career, which spanned from 1929 to 1989, she really can't be matched. here are some tornadoZ Bette Davis film recommendations:Bette Davis classics:1. The Little Foxes [1941] . as ruthless and icy-hearted Southern matriarch Regina Giddens, Davis demonstrates that "no one is as good as Bette when she's bad." Davis' finest film, in my opinion. 2. All About Eve [1950] . Davis is probably best remembered now as aging and volatile-but-insecure theater star Margo Channing. this is her other finest film. 3. The Letter [1940] . on a sweltering rubber plantation near Singapore, devoted housewife Leslie Crosby shoots a man dead on her front steps. and that's just in the first two minutes. 4. Of Human Bondage [1934] . as slutty and selfish waitress Mildred Rogers, Davis put herself on the Hollywood map with this astonishing performance. 5. What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? [1962] . the surprise success of this film provided comebacks and further work in horror films for both Davis and Crawford. Five interesting-but-often-overlooked Bette Davis films: 1. Stangers: The Story of a Mother and Daughter [1979] . turning to TV in the 1970s, Davis won an Emmy for her fine performance in this film with Gena Rowlands. 2. The Catered Affair [1956] . a Bronx family drama also starring Ernest Borgnine, Debbie Reynolds and accents. 3. Dead Ringer [1964] . two bad Bettes in horrible wigs for the price of one. 4. In This Our Life [1942] . Davis and Olivia de Havilland play sisters; one fair and saintly and the other rotten to the core. guess which one Bette plays. 5. Beyond the Forest [1949] . Rosa Moline hates her dull husband, her stupid town, the baby growing inside her, the audience, this movie... fascinating! listen to side
one.

two.

Well, I'm still not much of a movie-goer, but I certainly like to listen to mixes such as this.

Well this looks great. And timed to her 100th b'day!

Just curious, what is the connection of a song named "Bad" to Bette Davis?

Ta, I'm off to Blockbuster now.

I actually was reading her article on wikipedia a few days ago as it was their featured article. I'm loving the exploration of your last two mixes with actresses from yonder. Great J=hann J=hannsson pick. I've got good memories watching "All About Eve" in University, so I'll always have a soft spot for Bette Davis.

Jesus, this looks intimidating... but that would match its subject well. A fine tribute, I'm sure, that I'll have to listen to soon.

Nice one! Have you ever seen The Petrified Forest? It stars both a young Bette AND has an early performance by Humphrey Bohart!

I do hope this becomes a series, Alex. Not only for the wonderful music and tributes, but for your movie tips. For instance, I know and love All About Eve & ..Baby Jane, but now I just have to seek out the Little Foxes.
Now, your positon as one of the best mixers in the world is unquestionable, but, do you have the best job in the world or what??
