Additional tracks:31) Single K.O.32) Map Ref. 41¦N 93¦W33) 40 VersionsThis is a low-key re-working of my single-disc Wire comp from almost six years ago with a new title, remastered sound and some track substitutions. Since my original version, my esteem for these fellas has grown exponentially and I'm now discovering that there just *might* be life in them after 154. :-) (If anyone has any specific recommendations re: their post-154 work, I'd love to hear them.) Last tracks cut: "On Returning," "I Should Have Known Better," "Dot Dash," "A Question of Degree," "Sand in My Joints" and "Options R."Feedback:
great band
I've never really listened to this band, I'm ashamed to say. I have some catching up to do!
Probably they reached their peak with 154 although A Bell Is A Cup is a pretty strong effort. A great comp but how could you cut Dot Dash? One of their finest moments imo. Did you know there is a whole CD of bands covering Outdoor Miner? Can get a bit wearisome once you've heard it 8 times in a row despite some original treatments.
As one of the resident old farts, I am 100% in the dark here. Thanks, though.
The only song I have heard by this band is #32. Looks like you've put in some research here.
fantastic... must say I'm a bit partial to Chairs Missing
nice mix, good band.
hmm these guys are one of those bands i've always loved when i listen to them, but feel like i don't listen to nearly enough (though those first three albums are, indeed, great on every level) - lookin' good
Don't know em at all?
I don't believe I've heard anything from them besides their first three albums. Looks like I'm missing on something. Anyway, I can't see anything wrong here... classic set of punk classics here.
Looks good!
Great stuff. Haven't lined 'em up, but I suspect we're pretty close in terms of song selection, a few variations aside. I made mine as a two-cd mix and would be happy to get you disc 2 so you can check out the post-154 work. In terms of having the "complete" early wire, the otherwise painful Document & Eyewitness live collection includes two key studio tracks that would fit in perfectly on 154, and Colin Newman's first solo album (A-Z) has a lot of tracks written for a fourth Wire album and thus sounds a lot like you'd imagine the band might have had they stuck it out for one more album -- increasingly experimental, but also a couple great hooks. In terms of the reconstituted, more synth/dance-oriented band, only the first one (Ideal Copy is all that good; the later ones have a couple decent tracks each but, IMHO, are pretty forgettable.
This is excellent! You have represented Wire well.
Excellent! Great picks.
I'm not nearly as immersed in their catalog as I'd like to be. I like what I know here, and betting I'd like the rest as well. Great job...
Only know track 4 but I'm not sure they're my cup o' joe.
A terrific band - wonderful songwriters also. I 'think' I prefer R.E.M's version of Strange. And I 'know' I prefer Fischerspooner's 'The 15th', and Elastica's Connection (ho ho). I can't imagine anyone improving on Wire's version of 'Outdoor Miner' though. Although I would like to hear the aformentioned album..
