Comment:

My expanded (into a double disc) re-tooling of a mix from more than six years ago, this time incorporating the band's entire recording career (the previous single-disc edition had stopped with Siren). This is yet another band that I've grown to appreciate infinitely more over the past six years. The mix is obviously front-loaded (the first four albums are pretty much equally untouchable), even though I love Siren and Avalon quite a bit. To be honest, I could have included pretty much every track from the first three albums here, as the last tracks cut were, as follows: "Nightingale," "Sea Breezes," "Psalm," "The Space Between," "Oh Yeah," "My Only Love," "Three and Nine," "Triptych," "Could It Happen to Me?" and "Bitter-Sweet."

Agree with you all the way on this one, both in terms of song selection and weighting of albums. Those first few are particularly great, but Avalon, if wholly different stylistically, is essential listening as well.

In Every Dream Home a Heartache and The Thrill of It All are my faves... Country Life must be one of the most underrated LPs of the decade

I really need to dig deeper into these guys, only have one of their live discs (Viva!) at the moment but it gets pretty regular play.

'For Your Pleasure' is also my favourite Roxy album. Infact 'Beauty Queen' is probably one of my Top 10 songs of all time. Of the latter work, I'd have included Oh Yeah and Same Old Scene, but it's not my mix. And in 'More Than This' I reckon Mr Ferry delivered one of the finest vocal performances - a very, very hard song to sing, I'd love to do it on Karaoke like Bill Murray, but I think I'd ruin the song for life...

Rob, sometimes it's like you're reading my mind. It's only really over the past year that I've grown to really appreciate Roxy Music - firstly I have to agree with Sam on the More Than This vocal, which is one of my favourite songs, full stop. I love the flow of the second disc in particular. If I could come to some arrangement in purloining this I would be VERY happy! :)

I have the first three LP's but I find I can only listen to them in short bursts. They are a band I respect more than enjoy; objectively I can't deny their ingenuity.

I'm not familiar with most of their output, but I love Country Life. As always, I trust your picks.
