i might argue with your definition of indie, both in sound and the fact that less than half of these bands are actually still on independent labels, but regardless, there are a couple songs on here i really like.

True, but you have to look beyond the label distinction of 'indie' nowadays. Today, 'indie' transcends beyond the label into a genre of its own. A few years ago indie and alternative were almost synonymous, but today they are their own distinct genres... regardless of label affiliation. =)

i know what you're saying, but i would consider about 1/4 of these bands "indie" in sound. the rest are alternative or pop-infused rock, really.

Yeah, I guess... the name was more or less an afterthought. =)
