Comment:
I didn't need to do this. It's not going to win me any more applause. Quite the opposite, probably? Although I hope not. You see, we've all got our `Guilty Pleasures', and these are mine. I plead my innocence though, as I proudly parade this, because I love each and every track here dearly. Why? I do not know, but I do.A few other Guilty Pleasures then - Banana Sandwiches, Musicals, Romcoms, Jessica Rabbit.. Last Tracks cut - KC & The Sunshine Band - Give It Up, Wham - Freedom, Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song, Demis Roussos - Forever & Ever, Ultravox - Loves Great Adventure..
Glad that's all off my back. But there's still time to change my mind. Ah, sod it - SUBMIT...
Pt1 Pt2

Feedback:
Lots of really bad songs here sammy but i'm with you with the Gilbert O'Sullivan. Nothing that a world class pychologist can't fix.
I love the fact that you labeled this "Avant Garde." I must say I prefer the Mountain Goats version of "The Sign" but I'm with you on the Doobies, Howard Jones, Chicago, Gilbert O and Carly Simon. I did one of these a couple years back.
Quite revealing, this should be a challenge to us all. The Gilbert & Carly are my favorites.
And doowadette will be happy for the BeyoncT, though she might say that Ms. Knowles is "too old" ;-)
You're a brave man, Sammy. A brave, brave man, indeed. ;) 5 Gold Star Courage Points have been attributed...
Absolutely brilliant :D
Furthermore, there are no "bad" songs on here. Who can even say what constitutes "bad"? No wait, I can -- and the answer is Daz Sampson - Teenage Life -- the nadir of popular music. Otherwise -- it's all good. In fact, let me re-iterate -- absolutely brilliant :D
Uhm...nice cover...(sort of Vargas).
Far more entertaining than most mixes. Betty Boo, Chicago, Doobies = awesome; Kon Kan = weird New Order ripoff that I'm not sure I even have an opinion on; Ace of Base = horrible
if you like it-it is a good song. If not....
I love Cinderella Rockefella and I will put it on the next mix I will make for my daughter. There's quite a few on here I don't know, but I will certainly check them out now.
Captain & Tenille, ABBA, UB40, ONJ, Matthew Wilder.... I confess my guilt as well. Can't say the same for all the rest, but this looks like it was a lot of fun to put together.
Fun stuff. These folks can represent my country in the next Eurovision.
if you do not think that these songs are awesome, then i do not want to party with you! - thank you for being so wonderful, mr 123
a slice of guilt from sammy could be nothing less than instantly likeable & undeniably poppy as hell - what more could you ask for, i ask?
Sometimes it hard to get those out in the open for all to see. Glad you laid bare your soul here. There are some really great songs here.
I LOVE track 27 (although I don't love the artist, even thuogh I like the far more embarrassing "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be," too), like 21 quite a bit, and sort of like tracks 6 and 26. I can't stand the rest, but that doesn't mean you should agree with me. :-)
The skeletons in my own closet congratulate you on a job well done. Very liberating, I'd imagine!
"Cinderella Rockefella" is a great song! Lots to love here - play it loud and play it proud.
That GO'S song is the first single I ever bought. And I still love it!
The ambient/new-age equivalent would be Enya, Yanni, John Tesh, &/or Jim Brickman.

Track 1, quite a catchy number. Yeh I like The Sign too. Track 4 is a classic, that is a pleasure that involves no guilt imo. I loathe track 5 but tracks 8,12,15,16,21,26 and 27 are all pretty poptacular. I even quite like the ONJ song. But I've saved the best to last. Many times when trawling charity shops have I come face to face with that Dooleys song and each time I've nearly parted with 50p for it but Kathryn has dragged me back and insist I recover my senses immediately. Seeing it on here will inspire to buy it next time bossy girlfriend notwithstanding.
Guilty? No. Pleasures? Yes. Plenty to like here: Howard Jones (though my HJ G.P. is "What Is Love"), Jigsaw, Pilot ("Ho Ho Ho It's Magic" was the hit in the States), Doobie Bros (I absolutely loved that song back in the day! It even got me smokin' reefer), The Bluebells and the ultra-catchy Betty Boo number. Never heard the Dooleys before. Rupert's comment has got me interested. And I really only like that ONJ song because she wrote it about me ;)
There are no guilty pleasures, only pleasures!
Moe, that's amazing that ONJ wrote that one for you. of course, I'm 99% sure the Carly Simon song is about me. Sam, I guess you already know how I feel about Sheena Easton, Olivia Newton-John, The Dooleys and ABBA. and I just bought that excellent ABC album on a recent trip to Canada. ugh! Matthew Wilder: I tried singing "Break My Stride" at a church talent show when I was 13 (using the single's b-side, which was the instrumental version of the song), but the needle on the shitty church record player kept getting stuck and everyone in the audience was trying desperately to not burst out laughing as I kept running back to the player and bumping the needle forward. ahh, memories. anyway, let's see...that Marti Webb song is fantastic! and nobody ever told me I should feel guilty about liking Howard Jones, but now it seems so obvious. anyway, love that song and also Gilbert O'Sullivan, Pilot, Beyonce, Dr. Hook and Esther and Abi Ofarim. I'm afraid Ace of Base nearly caused a riot when I played this mix at work, though I don't mind it much. and buddy, I'm afraid you're on your own when it comes to "Don't Know Much" and that Ten Sharp song. yuck! I think it's great you posted this, Sam.
"Avant-garde" indeed! I love that Ace of Base track on the album. Infact, it was one of the first albums I bought! So many good memories. Those Beyonce and ABBA tracks are gold.
some great fun here
Think of it as catharsis! I love your embracing of the guilty pleasures - as well you should; I find that with songs of this nature, there's NOTHING you can do to stop yourself liking them. In fact, you don't choose them; they choose you. Does that Carly Simon song count as a guilty pleasure? Oh well, count me well and truly in on that one! I totally understand about the Bluebells. There's a chord change in it that, when I hear it, makes me think "Yeah!" then, "Wait, NO! NO! I DON'T WANT TO!" :) Well done on compiling this.
I refuse to believe there's such a thing as a "guilty pleasure". The Mountain Goats do a great live cover of Ace of Base's "The Sign", complete with "don't pretend you're too cool to like this song" commentary. I'd dance to this, anyday - great, fun mix!
