Comment:
I wanted to do this as a thank you for Tom (one of my AOTM padrinos) for his Monday mix. The first two were automatic and they tended to set the tone from there, which is why it might not have turned out as gutbuckety as Tom or I would have liked. Actually, now that I listen to it, I hope the Elton John didn't set the tone (not that there's anything wrong with it).In any case, as often times we are the only two commenting on new mixers' work, I have realized some different things about Tom's taste, which I hope to have reflected here. Since he is learning Spanish (or I am force-feeding it to him and others), I had to include that Mecano, the sweetest song about being a junkie you'll ever hear, as the bridge from the pop tunes into a Neil tune. I also tried to think back to the Back to Basics series I did last year, which were focused on my uncle Daryl and I know went over pretty well with Mr. Mahdishain. And I realized today that I left off Ian/Mott so I found this nice video of a new Ian tune. Anyway, thanks, Tom, this one's for you!Feedback:
I think you nailed it! All right every body, group hug. I feel the love.
Beautiful!
A lot of the old faithfuls here. What are you going to do when you've used up all their songs, D? :D Still, this looks fantastic. Also - get Annie Lennox's new album. It's GRAND!
Awesome, Derek. Great Waylon and Buddy Holly tunes, and the rest ain't bad either, to say the least.
Mixes like this, and Gabe's as well, are always a treat 'cos I discover gems I'd never normally get to hear.
Very nice, full of really solid stuff and I love basically all of it. Nice Daniel Lanois inclusion - I also appreciate a nice bit of Annie Lennox too.
The first two are always in the top of list of favorites of Townes and Tom. Fumblin' is my fall back song to sing when I want to get something out of my head. The rest is solid beyond belief. Plus a bonus video.thanks!
beautiful is the word
Nice stuff. And you, se±or, are muy prolffico.
I'm particularly fond of the first 3 tracks. Also, tracks 13, 14 and 15 come together perfectly!I have to say though, it's hard for me to think of Kris Kristofferson without thinking about vampires. : )Well Done!
You're a good pal AND a good mixer, doowad! The photos are a hoot.
This is a really, really nice looking mix. Much, much that I really like (or would like to hear), but "O Marie" is one of my all-time favorites....
You've been on fire since your return. This on my queue right now, but I can't wait to listen to it.
Hey, I don't remember posing for that picture. Ho ho. Another feast of wonderful music. 10-15 hits the spot for me..
"Temporary Like Achilles" is one of my ten or so favorite Dylan tracks (and one of his most unheralded masterpieces, IMHO), and I really, really love the Neil Young and Zevon tunes. The rest is cool, too. One of my favorites of yours.
thanks for the comment. this looks like a mix that i'd like too ;)
This sort of mix is right up my alley. Very nice effort and dedication to a fine mixer from Knoxville.
The list of artists is beyond reproach. Then you notice the actual selections, and reproach is cast to oblivion. If this is your dissertation, you can forget about the course work. Honours must follow. It's good to see Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss amongst such august company. Oh, and Running Scared, yes indeedy do!
how the hell did i miss this? no, seriously, what the christ? this is flipping fantastic, one of my very favorites of yours, derek
