Comment:

Do you perform miracles for the dead?
Do they stand up and praise you?
Do they know of your miracles or your saving power
in the dark world below, where all is forgotten?
Why do you reject me? Why do you turn from me?
Ever since I was a child, I have been sick and close to death.
You have terrified me and made me helpless.
Your anger is like a flood!
And I am shattered by your furious attacks
that strike each day and from every side.

My friends and neighbors have turned against me because of you,
and now darkness is my only companion.

I dig the Mississippi Fred and Johnny Cash. I'll pull it down now and give it a listen.Knowing you, I'm sure I'm gonna love the rest of it!

And out of nowhere you amaze me with something that could find its way on one of my mixes.
Spacemen 3 I'm referring to. It's like a miracle :).
That's where the miracle ends as the majority of the rest I don't know. I'm just an English troglodyte ;).

This is very, very nice - I like the Neil Young lurking in there, and managing to get Spacemen 3 alongside Townes Van Zandt deserves yet more kudos.

it wasn't easy, sammy, he had to lure me in with women, booze & promises of acting work.

either way, this looks fantastic, derek, as i'd expect nothing less from you. 4-6, 10, & 20-21 stick out the most to me. esp. 20, which oddly enough i had stuck in my head ALL DAY at work today...

Nice. LOVE LOVE LOVE that Spacemen 3 track--they're so underutilized around here.

I always thought God didn't need Johnny Cash. Wrong again, eh?
O.V. Wright, Neil Young, Mr. Zimmerman and Little Richard makes this mix aces for me. Greata stuff as always, d/o/o/w/a/d!

a great listen: loved the opening two (Japanese!), the Johnny Cash song, and Little Richard before he went all Michael Jackson/Nell Carter on us. but best of all for me was the Heavenly gospel Singers pick. really nice. oh, and it seemed there was a Van Morrison bonus track stuck in at #9, right?

That's the spirit! - Ouch! Very nice collection here. Every song seals in that theme, for maximum effect. It cheers me up no end to see that Jesus has not endorsed the anti-smoking lobby. I had noted that there was no mention of it in the Sermon On The Mount. Funny story (oh reallly?) no really; I thought that the "mount" in question was donkey/horse of some description...Hey, we are all flawed...and yet this mix proves me wrong...

You continue to amaze, both your prolificacy and spot-on/ness. Wish I could remember the exact dialogue - that scene with Tommy Lee Jones and Barry Corbin in 'No Country for Old Men' - "Well, I guess if I was God I wouldn't talk to me, neither.." It also made me think of Sister Gertrude Morgan. These are great selections, many of which I wish I knew better. I love Townes Van Zandt. Your mixes are like finely-composed short stories.
