2008/04/17 --- iqaluit, NUNAVUT, CANADA

obviously, it's been awhile since i've posted anything, so i just wanted to strike while the iron was hot. the genesis was a post on an online forum for the game 'knighthood' (the game sux right now, so don't bother trying it), where a fellow canuck recited lyrics from a captain tractor song, and i rejoindered with the lyrics from 'pitcairn island'.

anyway, like the title says, around the world trip in 23 songs, starting from where i am now in iqaluit on baffin island in the arctic. whyte avenue is in the city of edmonton, alberta, the city of my birth many years ago. elgin avenue is in downtown ottawa.

i think the rest is self-explanatory. yes, i know that the african song isn't really 'african', but salif keita's 'africa' slowed the mix down a bit too much for my liking. thanks again to antiparticle for the Magnetic Fields track.

the mark isham track is lifted from the dvd for the movie 'the cooler'. canadian artists are #2, 3, 4, 12, 17, and 22, with an obligatory honourary kudo to neko at #14.

cover graphic taken from a wikipedia world map with additional elements added thanks to smartdraw. and yes, i was anal enough to make sure the line from pitcairn to tasmania continued at the same angle and lines up on the actual printed folded-over copy ;)

18APR note: i'm always leery of mixes wrapped up at 5 a.m., but this one has held up thru a day of listening, so i've uploaded a copy of the mix to share with y'all. Enjoy !

Nice geography theme, but I completely and thoroughly dig your picks here, from Earle to U2 to Stray Cats & Dwight. Very, very nice.

Nice. I actually work two blocks away from Elgin. Love the Canadian contingent here.

Hey, that one dot is pretty far north!
Looks like quite a musical trip, from the Old 97s in their expensive hotel room to Neko covering one of my favorite singers, Lisa Marr.

lol, yep it is - we're just celebrating spring with a foot of snow still on the ground ;)

anyway, i'm going to enjoy it while it lasts, as i'm heading off to film school in b.c. this fall ...

Shame on you, nothing from New Zealand, and yet the Pitcairns are represented. The Kiwis will never hear the end of it.

My dad is from NZ so I sometimes feel the need to respond to the ancestral blood when it starts to boil.

Limited knowledge of stuff here but I like the REM track.

You could have picked a lot worse places to end than Paris, though I'd like to end up in Cali with Neko.
