Comment:
31. Kim Weston - Go Ahead And Laugh (first version). These are my remaining selections from Motown after I removed twelve songs that I had used on prior mixes: "Run, Run, Run" (#93, #22) and "Come See About Me" (#1, #2) by the Supremes, "You're a Wonderful One" (#15, #3) and "How Sweet it is (To Be Loved By You)" (1965 #6, #3) by Marvin Gaye, "Every Little Bit Hurts" (#13, #3) and "I'll Always Love You" (#60) by Brenda Holloway, "The Way You Do The Things You Do" (#11, #1) by The Temptations, "Devil With the Blue Dress" (#125, #26) by Shorty Long, "Baby I Love Your Loving" (#11, #4) by Four Tops, "Dancing in the Streets" (#2, #8) by Martha & The Vandellas, "Needle in a Haystack" (#45, #31) by The Velvelettes, and "Two Many Fish in the Sea" (#25, 1965 #5) by the Marvelettes. All of the songs here were issued in 1964, but some peaked in 1965 (as indicated). When the song title is followed by two numbers, the first indicates the Pop and the second the R&B chart numbers. The length of the mix is 79m27s. And, again, thanks to Hip-o Select for making these songs available in their Complete Motown Singles box sets. The picture is of Mary Wells.
Feedback:
Another great year, Joe.
This is beautiful, two Jr. Walker tunes I don't know make it for me.
awesome. all the essentials are here, and then some!
The Vevelettes should have burned the top 5 with that classic track. So many winners here.
Makes me feel like a kid with an AM radio again!
Impossible to go wrong here.
Top-notch, through and through.
unutterably fantastic - so many childhood staples here, not to mention adulthood staples...
The way you archive and present music is certainly top-notch! Thank you for this, RJ.
Always great to see soul ('specially Motown) represented at AOTM. Good mix of chart-toppers and obscurities, Joe.
I was all over Motown in 1964. Thanks for the memories.
