Comment:
about every couple of years, i stumble upon a band or an artist that i've somehow never been properly introduced to and i become deeply, completely and utterly fixated upon them. the kinks, the zombies, big star, the byrds...and now, brian eno. i've known of eno for years, sure, but had just kind of taken him for granted and passed on picking up the albums. a couple of years back, "here come the warm jets" fell into my mitts; i loved it, played it endlessly, blah blah blah. last week, i was over at a friend's house and he'd thrown on a tattered vinyl copy of "taking tiger mountain" and it just hit me like a ton of bricks....i ran out days later and snagged it, feeling the same giddy rush of discovery i'd gotten when i'd delved into those other artist's back catalogues...do yourself a favor, kids, and brush up on the eno. it's all here, droning rockers ('third uncle' and 'needles in the camel's eye'), blissed-out lullabies ('on some faraway beach' and 'taking tiger mountain') and skewed, alien poptunes (most of the rest). someone i'd not mind sitting next to on a long plane ride and striking up a conversation with; a fascinating, hilarious, twisted and inspiring man.Feedback:
oh dear god help me, i've got a microphone stuck in my ear... and it's playing all this crazy sh**t! and i love it! the monkey man is trying to claw me with his metal fingernails, must... reach... HI-FI and hit .......PLAY!
Great mix here. I had never considered doing an Eno mix before, but after viewing this I should reconsider. Just a question: why no songs from "Apollo" or any ambient Eno? Just a preference for 70's Eno? Nice work though. "Here Comes the Warm Jets" is fab.
wooo!true words...I've been meaning to do an Eno compilation for a while, but it's kinda hard to sit things like Needles In A Camel's Eye next to stuff off Music For Airports...I know, that should be the beauty of the mix,but the definition of ambient does not extend to weird guitar solos and lyrics about senators from Ecuador who talked about a meteor...or does it? :)
Ya know... which albums past Before & After Science do I need, Dave?
