Comment:
The genesis of this mix was the Lila track on Lado A. The basic concept was music to shake your booty to while (theoretically) raising your consciousness at the same time. And though the bookends here are both chants, Tacvba y Sabina eventually get things moving. I also decided to sprinkle in a few English tracks for flavour.I was also inspired by the release of G-Sphere's very fine series, Not In Our Name, which also had some great rhythm to get us off our arses and out on the streets. In any case, as this mix evolved over the past few weeks (it was started during my AOTM sabbatical), I started playing further with my Goldwave, particularly as Brother Strange Loop fed me mp3s of my old cassettes which needed occasional tweaking. Those experiments led to wanting to replicate, in my own way, the general style of Mr. TornadoZ, by creating two continuous tracks, ready to copy on to Lado A and Lado B of your faithful 90 minute chromium dioxide. Oh, and the title is of course gracias al Sr. Elvis Costello.
Feedback:
Great source of inspiration - and the results stand on their own - fab mix.
I was thinking along the lines of shaking my consciousness and raising the booty. The mix(es) look very intriguing.
Good question, what is so funny about peace, love, and comprensi=n? And yeah, this does have the look and feel of a tornadoZ creation, well done.
Such a great listen, Derek. I love these kind of mixes, stuffed with foreign language pop. Loved the Davies & Clash inclusions also - I'd never heard Vietnam Cowboys before but did like it. Hey, did you know I have Illya Kuryaki's autograph?
So little I know here. Somrtimes my ignorance astounds me.
Didn't really know a damn thing on here, D. But I'll be a-listenin' today, and I trust that it'll be a good time! Thanks for throwin' in some English "flavor". :D
What Gabe said
the ray davies, clash & stevie wonder are preliminary favs, but as always i'm sure there're much treasures to be found here
It's only the English flavour that prevents me from being totally clueless here. Looking forward to furthering my education with the d/l though.
Another gem.
FANTASTIC!
well, I like your style... haha. very nice, Derek. loved the opening two on side one, the Stevie Wonder that starts off side two, and the Lila Downs/Mano Negra closing pair. was it the Naranja Mecßnica that sounded a bit like The Cult? a great track, whatever it was. but my favorite here was the Maldita Vecindad y los Hijos del Quinto Patio song. incredible! I'll be looking for more and sure hope I find it! nice cover art too.
your song selection is matched only by your song placement
Hey Derek thanks for the props... I was out of town and off the board for a week and almost missed this. This is a very cool mix and I'm really looking forward to giving this a listen.
