Comment:
The third and final volume. Again, extensive liner notes can be found on disc 1. Thanks to SwankQueen for hipping me to that final track--I'd pretty much dismissed that album (Enlightenment) for years before she brought that track to my attention and now I think it's a great one.Feedback:
Those last two are actually my favorite Van songs, plus his new album has some very nice highlights (I used one on my Ole Anthony album).
Super glad to see "In the Garden", my favorite Van song from what I've eventually concluded is actually my all time-favorite Van album (and you know I do love the man). I guess I actually like his *voice* circa '86 better than circa '74 (Veedon Fleece: surely my 2nd favorite Van album), which actually seems a little bit reedy to me. But where's "Country Fair" to hang out with its eight VF-mates, and where oh where is "Redwood Tree"? And actually, which version of "Wonderful Remark" is that, the eight-minute early version from Philosopher's Stone (the one I think of as "the real, genuine version"), or the condensed, what is it, four-and-a-half-minute version from Best of Van?
And his new album is wonderful...
