Comment:

80 minutes from the first four albums (i.e., the four that were recorded in Nashville at his creative peak, before he switched to faceless L.A. session players as backing musicians) by the classiest act in "Outlaw Country." I can't think of many other songwriters that can muster up the literate earthiness and casual cool of this Rhodes scholar/Army helicopter pilot. I even like his voice... and he's not a bad actor, either. At any rate, 80 minutes captured exactly what I wanted to capture--not one song more or less.

Excellent! Love him. I am reading a book that mentioned his fling with Carly Simon before he married Rita Coolidge.

Great, great collection, Rob. I really like his voice too, and love so many of these tracks...but not as much as I love his work in Blade.

I'll take your word on his greatness. He's an artist that has made no impression in the UK but then I think we're fairly oblivious to country over here except for the time bloody Kenny Rogers kept the Pistols off no.1 though it's rumoured that was fixed so as not to ruin the queen's jubilee.

A voice I've always liked and a songwriter to be reckoned with. If half the stories are true....

Very nice. Kristofferson is a brilliant songwriter and this is an excellent introduction for anyone who has not yet discovered him.

Silver Tongued Devil and the Pilgrim are perfect songs, as are most of Kris'. I have to show doowadette Pat Garret & Billy the Kid.

Yeah, those first four albums are absolute stone classics. I would add that his album This Old Road from a couple of years ago ranks with his best work. Great mix.

I saw KK in Knoxville last year on his solo tour and he's sounding more and more like Loudon Wainwright all the time. That's a good thing. Of course, he has his own voice and writes some very fine songs. He's one artist who always seems to come off on stage much better than on record, though I do like the one he did with Rita Coolidge.
He had a very good role in "Payback" as the mob boss Mel Gibson finally, well, paid back.

I know him more for his work as an actor then his music, which is sad. I'll look out for his records now to rectify that.

So not including "To Beat the Devil" and "Casey's Last Ride" didn't hurt you even just a little bit? That's cruel, man, downright cruel. That said, what you did include certainly makes for an excellent 80 minutes, so I guess I should stop complaining about things you could be changing, because who do I think's gonna care. Sorry, I am easily amused tonight. I meant to say: nice one!

Killah! I have a love/annoyance relationship with Kris, but mostly I enjoy him. Nice picks.
