Comment:
here's one I made for someone I've known for a really long time... my sister! and now just a few facts about her life to put this mix into context: In college, Sarah spent time studying in Germany, where she lived with a nice family and learned to converse fluently in the German language. She was later called to serve a church mission in Switzerland, where the German tongue came in handy once again. there are those of us in the family who believe that Sarah's fascination with Germany and the Alps may have taken root in her youth, when she starred as the family maid in a local community production of The Sound of Music. With all this in mind, I decided to make a German-language mix for her as a gift for Mother's Day. but when I hinted about a potential mix, she gleefully asked me to take into consideration that she was secretly a huge John Denver fan! she informed me that his voice has a magical calming effect when life's chaos swirls all around her. At first, this threw me for a loop. but I've always enjoyed loops, so here's Sarah's German-language Alpine mix laced with quite a few John Denver tunes. listenhere.
Feedback:
if this don't get her yodelin', nothing will! hope your sister digs heino...
My favorite German-language Alpine laced with John Denver mix of the week!
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Alex! Some of these recordings and names are taking me on a trip down memory lane. A lot of '60s and '70s stuff here (when did your sister live in Germany and Switzerland?). I never heard of Carola Kraus before, but I like this track! Franzl Lang, of course, is the JodelkA¦nig, and his version of the Kuckucksjodel shows why.
Seriously sick, in almost every respect. Heino? Maria Hellwig? "Auf der schwSb'schen Eisenbahne"? You must be joking. But, hell, she might even like it, in some crazy way. PS: Corrie van Gorp is, of course, Dutch, not German.
what a sweet notion
Very nice thing to do, Z....
John Denver has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, thanks to my parents. A great sentiment that will most assuredly be enjoyed and appreciated.
My sister is a closet John Denver fan too, but she spent her time in Edinburgh, not Germany or Switzerland. This looks like a fun excursion, I'll bet she loved it!
No playlist that starts out with the Guckenheimer Sour Kraut Band can go too far downhill, & I look forward to hearing some yodel-ay-hee-hoo here - thanks! (I don't know about the John Denver, though - - when Cheney & Rice approved waterboarding & torture, didn't they agree that playing John Denver to captives would be going too far ?)
I love John Denver... 'rocky mountain HIIGGHH!' Intriguing mix Alex.
Well spank me and call me Heidi, this is YODELTASTIC! Is there such a word? There should be. I haven't listned to this yet but this is right up my tree good Sir..
This is one of my top 5 TornadoZ of all time, I think. The cross-cultural ger-mexican Heino track is just awesome, the perfect counterpart to oompah band Norte±o, and the John Denver is a sweet complement.
This will have her schussing down the Matterhorn.
Never thought I'd see the day when John Denver was germane to this type of music. Full of surprises as usual.
It's simply impossible to go wrong when you combine Heino and John Denver. I learned that six years ago. I hope your sis loved the mix as much as everyone here!
i'm astonished.
This looks sweet in fun. Even though I'm not a fan of J.D., I can see the calming effect that his voice might exert.
Man, am I ever late on this one. I gave this a listen last week and it was really. Even the John Denver stuff grew on me. I really hope your sister dug your mix.
