Comment:
Here are the classical origins of this mix by track number: 1) Disco version of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. 2) Based on a theme from Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. 3) Based on Maurice Ravel's Pavane pour une infante defunte. 4) Based on Debussy's Raverie. 5) Adapted from an aria ("Muzetta's Waltz") from Puccini's La Boheme. 6) Based on J.S. Bach's Minuet in G from the Anna Magdalena Notebook. 7) Based on "Gliding Dance of the Maidens" from Alexander Borodin's Polovetsian Dances. 8) Based on Johannes Brahm's Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G minor. 9) Based on Rossini's Largo al Factotum from the Barber of Seville. 10) Based on Maurice Ravel's Bolero. 11) Based on Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony. 12) Quotes extensively from Chopin's Prelude in C minor. 13) A Funk arrangement of Richard Strauss' composition of the same name. 14) Vocal version of Tchiakovsky's Piano Concerto in B Flat. 15) Based on the Fantasie Impromptu in C Sharp Minor by Frederic Chopin. 16) Based on a theme from Brahm's Academic Festival Overture. 17) Based on Pochielli's "Dance of the Hours" from La Gioconda. 18) Based on Alexander Borodin's string Quartet in D. 19) Based on Frederic Chopin's Polonaise in A Flat major, op. 53, the "Polanaise heroique". 20) Derived from Frederic Chopin's Etude No. 3 in E, op. 10. 21) Based on Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. 22) Based on Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14, "Moonlight". 23) Based on Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. The portrait is of Frederick Chopin who was the inspiration for 4 of the selections here (a close second was Sergei Rachmaninoff thanks in large part to Eric Carmen's attraction to his music). The length of this mix is 78m18s and the average peak charting year is 1959.0This mix is dedicated to Quentin, a friend of mine who suggested the theme (and he probably didn't think I'd take him up on it, but the idea stuck).
Feedback:
If there were 6 stars available, I would give them to this mix.
A classic!
Somewhere in "Gravity's Rainbow" Pynchon riffs on a mid-20th-century fad for classical-sounding song titles, like "My Prelude to a Kiss," "Tenement Symphony," & "A Doper's Cadenza". I've never heardf any of those, but I'd like to hear this!

Absolutely brilliant stuff Joe. Did something myself a couple of years ago, though not just with Classical stuff. Revival it was called - should still be available to download. Speaking of downloads.....
Oh. My. God. Awesomeness abounds, as always. Track 17, no joke, we sang at one of my choir camps in junior high. I love that song.<3 Sara
Top notch! Now I see where all these folks get their inspiration.
Like Sammy, I took a crack at this concept once, in a mix called "Way To The Whiskey Bar, And Other Great Moments In Opera."

Wonderful concept. Love the Four Aces take on the standard.
