Comment:
Figure I don't need an excuse to make a dedication to John Waters, since his musical selections are almost always an inspiration. He of course fairs from Baltimore and so I'm including 6 songs from groups in that area. These last few were not songs he chose in his movies or compilations, but at least the two by the Swallows could have been. I actually saw John Waters walk by me as I waited for a Geary bus near Powell Street (by San Francisco's Union Square) about a month ago. I might have stopped him to say hi, but my first impression was he was looking like hell; like he'd been up all night smoking, drinking, and doing who knows what other drugs, and he was getting too old for it. Maybe I should have, even if the only thing I could think of saying was that he looked like shit. The length of the mix is 75m35s and the average year for all the songs is 1956.5 (John Waters was born in April 1946).
Feedback:
Fantastic, looks incredible. I have no more words.
always good to see Little Richard, Screamin' Jay Hawkins et al on a mix.
classic stuff
Love this one! Been having a hankering for some classic John Waters cinema...Really love the way track 7 is used, with that steak, umm, "hidden away" by Divine...Really great job with this mix...
Joe, I love your mixes, and your dedication to, well, things that are important to you. Anyhow, as I was saying, I love your mixes. None more so than this. Truly exceptional...
A delight in every way!
this looks really cool, great concept!
I think this is one of my favorites of yours, more fun than a barrel full of eggs (with apologies to Edith Massey). Some of my friends del ambiente in Guadalajara kept my VHS of Desperate Living backed with Pink Flamingos that the Wad had made me. They would run them over and over at the bar they owned together. Last I heard they moved to Canada to get married. Nice guys, even if they didn't believe in "te presto, pero con v de vuelta."
We love John Waters in this house. Kathryn and I went to see Hairspray at the theatre and we saw the new film as well. I bought K The Simply Divine Cut-Out Doll Book for her birthday, another ebay purchase, as she's a big Divine fan too. As for this mix, the music matches the concept, fabulous.
Great stuff R.J. That Little Richard track is as good as it gets.
Waters is such an original, and this mix brings comes together beautifully in his honor.
I'm kinda lukewarm on Waters' works, but the mix looks very good indeed.
Yeah, very cool.
