Comment:

A few weeks ago it occurred to me I was fast approaching my 100th mix posting on Art of the Mix. And so I decided to honour it with an extra special mix - favourite tracks picked by various members of the wonderful AotM community. So, a few weeks ago, I sent out invites to all the mixers I believe contribute highly into making this site such a pleasure to browse, and be a part of. Obviously I will have missed a few of you, and for that I am sorry.
I very much hoped this would end up being a Double Cd mix. It then became apparent this was going to be a triple, and as the numbers submissions hit, and passed 60, I realised it would have to be a double posting. So: thanks to you all, this is a 4 disc spectacular.
Now - I must stress this isn't a 68 track mix to be listened to in one sitting, it's more 4 separate hour long mixes. And not wanting to be accused of favouritism or bias in any way ( my favourite tracks or mixers on Disc 1, for instance ) I worked things out like this..
Dragging every song into an I tunes folder, I put them all into length order, shortest to longest. I then took every fourth song ( 1, 5, 9, 13 etc ) and dragged them into a new folder marked `One'. From the remaining tracks I took every third track and placed them in folder `Two'. With the remainder, took every second track, placed them in `Three', and the songs left were placed into folder `Four'. I hope that makes some kind of sense.
I'll Ramble On a little more on the next posting, but for now Happy 100th to me Sammy G! I'll be signing up for another ton if that's okay.

[In all honesty, wonderful and masterfully sequenced. You're championship of community is highly admirable]

lanhamyodel's feedback on discs 3 & 4 pretty much took the words right out of my fingers. you've created the HOW THE WEST WAS WON of musical mixing. it's an all-star cast! taking the day off work, but I look forward to hearing these tomorrow, when I'm once again sitting before a computer made after 1974. happy 101, sammyg!

Thanks Sam, for my inclusion and for this fab, diverse sampler of 68 mixing talents that AOTM and your efforts have helped to expose to a music-loving public. Regarding my contribution, "Piece of my Heart", it was sung by Aretha Franklin's younger sister and reached only #62 on the charts in 1967 (her only top 100 song). This song was instrumental in Janis Joplin's success when, with Big Brother & The Holding Company, she debuted on the charts with it the next year, when it charted in at #12 (her second biggest hit).

just chiming in again, post-listen. not a dud in the bunch, though I think abangaku (my pick as recipient of the most original submission award) has a little explaining to do. ;-) my top picks on disc one are tracks sent in by gobi, hemizen, njr, Salman1 - and on disc two, I really liked tracks submitted by Barrydali, Curtis_Burns, buglady, blasikin, anthony lombardi and that pretty mahdishain pick. my favorite of the entire jumbo set though is probably that incredible "Wat Ju No" song that lanhamyodel sent in. amazing! but as I said, this is a really cool collection of great tunes from all. well done, us!
