12/31/99 MCM, 1/1/00 MM.I had been introduced to Ministry via Twitch and found NIN and Front 242 on my own. I'd heard about this guy from Florida, and my daughter and her friends (graduating class of 1999, no less) had dropped his name a few times as The Band To Annoy Your Parents with... and I found Portrait Of An American Family...From the opening, a twisted, psychedelic version of the nightmare inducing Gene Wilder monolouge from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to the Twin Peaks inspired Wrapped In Plastic, this quickly became one of my personal faves. I'd bought the tape to check it out, to see what the kids were talking about, and was stunned.When NIN went on tour, my daughter begged to go see Trent when (t)he(y) invaded Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, MI, and I told her no, it was in the middle of the week, and she was still in school, and besides (less than a year before he recorded and toured with Bowie) ..."Nine Inch Nails will never cross over to the mainstream."Right. Well, Trent crossed over and had a huge hit, and then Manson went on tour, hitting the very same stadium, so I told her we'd go. This was the tour supporting Antichrist Superstar, the most overused disc on this mix, but still my fave Manson release.That was one of the single most impressive shows I've ever seen, not the least of which being the opening act, Rasputina, who was boo'd off the stage, and my daughter and I were screaming abuse at the idiot audience.The 3 cuts jammed together, 2-4, were done so I could actaully hear the triptych...The Nobodies is the Plane Crash cut (if the plane went down and he never recorded anything else, he would be a favorite...) that has two seperate renditions here.Thank you for your attention.
