Some Rocks I Know
Comment:
A few years ago, we took a trip to Sedona, Arizona. While driving along , we saw a sign that said "Watch for Rocks." My companion said it should read "Watch for Pretty Rocks." I told her she should write in her suggestion to the highway department.I am entranced by the mystery of rocks, and absorbed by their variety, shapes and kinds. Everywhere they are visible yet everywhere occult. As Emily Bronte once wrote: "My Love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath, a necessary and visible source of delight."
To me, rocks have that underlying sturdiness that is comforting even if they are not dazzling. Ursula K. LeGuin wrote: "If you see a whole thing - it seems that it's always beautiful. Planets, lives... But up close a world's all dirt and rocks. And day to day, life's a hard job, you get tired, you lose the pattern."
Two quizzes this time and two CDs with artwork to give away. Please answer only one per person. (1) Which of the artists on the mix took its name from a '50s movie? and (2) Which of the artists above is connected to the band Black Grape?
Feedback:
Argh! The Placebo version of Running Up That Hill has been my ear worm for the past several weeks. I finally got it out of my brain, and there you post the original Kate Bush version, and I am back hosting my ear worm. Not that it is bad, but time for a change already.
For quiz #8: All About Eve, starring Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and a snarky George Sanders.
Still rocking to the 100 Guitarists set. My daughter likes it/them too!

This is a wonderful looking mix, Dean. Anyone who is yet to hear 'Checking In Checking Out' is in for a real treat. Probably one of my top 20 favourite songs of all time..
..and Kate Bush on the sleeve of the original 7" single of 'Running Up That Hill' is just beautiful..
Number 2: Happy Mondays and Black Grape both feature Mr. Ryder on lead vocals. And I love both of those bands, that HM song, and the High Llamas track.
The High Llamas track is one of my all-time favorite songs as well. Great ears listen alike:)
Two quiz winners in njr and Rob. Nice going, people.

Well, this rocks, that I much I know.
Oh! All About Eve is correct (as njr already pointed out). I know this as it was once a 100 All-Time American Film Listee and, more importantly, the Criterion Collection Edition DVD graces my collection. Part 2: The Happy Mondays disbanded and Shaun Ryder formed the Black Grapes. Manchester!!!
All About Eve is such a great movie. And am I the only one who likes the fact that you quote Emily Bronte in a mix featuring Kate Bush?
this looks neat & really infectious - i particularly love that percy sledge song & the happy mondays. who knew rocks could inspire such a great mix?
This one walks the walk & rocks the rock.
Haven't heard a hurdy gurdy man in a long, long time . . .

Great!Eye in the Sky is one of my all time favorite songs. Also like the Tears For Fears and Bowie.
I think you've successfully created a consistent aesthetic here. Kudos.
Another stellar outing. Great mix, man.
