El Gringo del Arrabal
Comment:
A sequel of sorts to my wife's obra maestra from earlier this year, though it ended up being this gringo's poor attempt to represent musically what he only has connection to vicariously. While she witnessed the ambiente she was describing through her grandmother and father, I only take her lead in presenting a similar theme. And where her mix has the flavor of a real Sal=n de Baile from 1940s Mexico City, mine is more like the gringo who drank too much tequila and got la madre beat out of him at 3 in the morning (something I have had personal experience with, but that is a story for a different time).Actually I would have made it more of a true narrative by linking the songs thematically, but they sound better in this order. Speaking of, she and I obviously do have many artists in common, originating in all countries of el mundo hispano. And I already know that most comments will say something to the effect of "Well, I don't know much here, but I like that Santana (or maybe CafT Tacvba or Jorge Drexler)!" It really doesn't matter, this is made for my wife, and she probably won't even like it.Feedback:
You're right, I don't know anything here but I plan on checking it out and, possibly, connecting vicariously.
I am blindly proud of my lack of Mexican/Latino cred ;).
The gringo mixes like a native.
Oh, goodness. I know Jorge Drexler from you, and a couple others. Yet another tutorial to download!
DADDY, NO OFFENCE TO YOUR OTHER MIXES, BUT THIS IS YOUR BEST YET! Love,Doowadette<3
i expect nothing but the best from you, derek
Believe it or not I am very impressed with this mix. Te salio mejor que a mi. Ika
This looks super-- love the Charlton Heston cover... the most bizarre Mexican/Gringo hybrid of all time!
lots of treats on this one. especially liked Alejandro Algara, JosT JosT, "El Cocodrilo," "El Estuche"... but the Tuna Real number was the best one of all. I might just buy their CD based on that track alone.
I've got a couple of hours to myself this evening (what joy!) and this mix is top o' my listening list. My cuppa tea, Derek - this looks great.
