First of all, this is more new age than jazz, but alas no such category. I suppose it's all jazz, is it not?
Love can be such a sad thing in a world increasingly complicated. Not all those who are meant to be find each other. Even when they do, sometimes the timing is off, leaving them afraid to follow their heart. Love can be the most beautiful, as well as the cruelest of fates.

There is a friend who I could be close to in another way were situations different. Sometimes I long to call her up and say, come here and stay with me, in this beautiful place. But we are friends, and that is all. There are rules and hearts that cannot be broken. I've listened to her tell me she becomes sad at least once a day, because there are so many beautiful things in the world and life is so short. Sitting here, I realize this and understand why it makes her sad.
I'm reminded of a passage from a biography of the French composer Eric Satie. "Satie met Suzanne Valadon, an artists' model and artist in her own right, and began an affair early in 1893. After their first night together, he proposed marriage. The two did not marry, but Valadon moved to a room next to Satie's at the Rue Cortot. Satie became obsessed with her, calling her his Biqui, and writing impassioned notes about "her whole being, lovely eyes, gentle hands, and tiny feet". During their relationship, Satie composed the Danses Gothiques as a kind of prayer to restore peace of mind, and Valadon painted a portrait of Satie, which she gave to him. After six months she moved away, leaving Satie broken-hearted. Afterwards, he said that he was left with "nothing but an icy loneliness that fills the head with emptiness and the heart with sadness". It is believed this was the only intimate relationship Satie ever had.
As one of the world's most beautiful women, Isabella Rossellini, has said: "If you're sad and you like beer . I'm your lady."
