Comment:
This is my revised and expanded Tom Waits mix. (I believe this is the third time I've posted such an animal. The original set was two discs, the last set was three discs, and now this is four CDs.) I realize that Waits mixes of one stripe or another are a dime a dozen around these parts, but I thought this sprawling chronological survey might augment the "box set" angle relatively well. Thanks a million to Mark P for the helping me whittle this monster down during a lengthy phone conversation on Tuesday night (it definitely helped to get a second opinion). Last tracks cut from these two discs: "Grapefruit Moon," "San Diego Serenade," "Romeo is Bleeding," "Town with No Cheer," "Trouble's Braids," and "Singapore" (the last of which is the first Tom Waits song that I ever heard).Feedback:
I CLAP HANDS here... nice!
Too many Waits mixes exclude Martha which I adore, seriously I don't care if the hi-brow crew think it's slushy it is absolutely beautiful. Starting disc 2 with Kentucky Avenue really works for me. This is the dogs bollocks young Conroy.
I couldn't resist a trip back into the danger zone for this one. Very satisfactory.
Ha, I was just spinning "Swordfishtrombones" in my car for my cousin and his gf Thursday night. I think that might be my favorite, although "Rain Dogs" was the first I ever heard and my fave for a long time. "Singapore" might be my single favorite song of his, so there's no way I could cut that. I actually like that middle phase of his career the best, when he went more experimental. Anyway, fine work here. I have pretty much all of his albums in some form or another and have wanted to embark on a project like this but his catalogue is just so daunting.
sure, tom waits mixes around here are a dime a dozen, but i'd be hard-pressed to find a better artist to anthologize - for as frequent as they are, they always come out at least partly unique from each other & are filled with tons of great music. tom is one of my 10 or so all-time favorite music figures, & both rain dogs & swordfishtrombones sit inside my top 30 all-time favorite albums. a few of my favorites may be missing, but it's hard arguing with what's here.
I think my favorite run out of the four disks is the last bit on disk 1, though I do have many favorites sprinkled throughout. Though the last run on disk 2 is hard to argue with too.
One word - Wow.
Keep the artists coming. I don't usually comment on single artist mixes because there is little to add. But I like seeing these and I put full confidence in you on box settings!
How i have missed this! What a great mix! I can just say like sammyg123 said. so...Wow.
