Comment:
Now, this is one of those I just seem to conjure up out of a hat. It's one of those Pazuzu mixes that probably seems just a tad random - even to me! I didn't have much of a plan starting out, and as cheesy as it is to say, this one kind of mixed itself. Not to say that I didn't plan on using the songs contained within at some point in time, but it's just that everything sort of fell into place rather spontaneously, without a lot of pre-planning.Today's "elimination" is...At The Drive-In's Relationship Of Command! Actually, I haven't yet used up the two bonus tracks from the re-released version, but I've used all 11 tracks from the original edition, so I figure it stillcounts! (And I just might use those two bonus tracks in a later mix...)
Theme One - Now this piece was actually written by the great Sir George Martin (the Beatles' producer!) as theme music for a BBC radio program. Then English cult prog gods Van Der Graaf Generator did a cover of it, released it as a single, and apparently the producers at the Beeb loved it so much they replaced the original with the Van Der Graaf cover! I just thought this would make a good o-pener.
Summer's Almost Gone - Preach it, Jimbo! In fact, I'm starting to suffer a mild form of seasonal affect right now. :-(
The Frayed En-ds Of Sanity < Die Dead Enough < Cheater - A bit of a heavy-metal thunderstorm two-thirds of the way through Disc #1, which is otherwise actually a tad on the mild side, at least by my standards anyway. Metallica pays homage to The Wizard Of Oz in the intro to Frayed En-ds, while Rob Halford sings from the point of view of a guy who vengefully takes a .44 Magnum to his cheating wife and another man when he catches them in bed together. (And one must presume, for more than one reason, that it's not exactly autobiographical...)
Groove Co. - A rarity from The Cult, from their aborted 1986 album Peace, which was meant to be the followup to Love, many of the songs of which were re-recorded with producer Rick Rubin for Electric in '87...but not this one, though!
Feedback:
Tull, Metallica, Janis, Ramones...another triumph.
Dylan to Devo looks interesting, to say the least.
