Comment:
Today's eliminations are:The Doors - Morrison Hotel/Hard Rock Cafe (1970) (#118 - 10/9/08)
Chris Squire - Fish Out Of Water (1975) (#118 - 10/9/08)
Led Zeppelin - Coda (1982) (#118 - 10/9/08)
Suede - Suede (1993) (#118 - 10/9/08)
Shoes < For No One - I don't know why, but I had this particular sequencing locked down in my mind right from the get-go. Don't know why I thought it would be cool, I just think it works...
Beat On The Brat < Bad Apples - A bit of sequencing that sort of shows off my playful side. :-)
South Of Heaven < Home < Small Deadly Space < Psychotic Break - A bit of heavy-metal thundah! to kick o-pen the gates for the second half of the program!
Brush Away / Psychotic Break < Wake Up - I'm not 100% certain, but I think this is the first occasion on which Alice In Chains, solo Jerry Cantrell, and Mad Season (with Layne Staley) have been on the same mix together.
Mother - Yup, that's right! This is the one from Synchronicity which sounds like some demented odd-metered waltz, with guitarist Andy Summers wailing tortuous Freudian angst like Martin Short's Ed Grimley ch-aracter on bad acid (ha, ha, ha)! Well, what can I say? I'm kind of a fan of the Police's more warped and eccentric side (which admittedly is best represented by Summers' songwriting).
Richie Dagger's Crime - Another one of my two-minute punk-rock "spacefillers" that I rely on to carry the running time over the desired 78-minute mark! Usually doesn't help, but I don't think it hurts either. And anyway, it is kind of cool to have Pat Smear back to back with his idol Steve Howe, who plays on the preceding track The Hunter! (Betcha didn't know that Steve Howe was Pat Smear's favorite guitarist, did ya??)
These Days - Not Joy Division's original studio version which served as the B-side to Love Will Tear Us Apart, but a BBC session which I thought rocked a tad harder (and brings Disc #2 to a close, mirroring the New Order track which closes Disc #1)!
Feedback:
If you're looking for "spacefillers", you might try the Angry Samoans....unless you're easily offe nded. Clash, Doors, Slayer, Germs Rage, Ramones, Beatles, and Maiden all look good to me. The Steve Howe/Pat Smear connection became obvious to me when Pat took the intro of "Roundabout" for "No God"....makes sense if you think about it.
