Comment:

A few years ago I read an article on Billy Bragg in which he talked about his early influences and some of his favorite folk musicians from the British Isles. This mix session is a compilation of some of the tracks and musicians he mentioned.
There was a lot of Irish music heard in Daggenham where Bragg grew up because a lot of Irish came over from the Republic to work in the Ford factory. As expected though, Bragg leans toward the political in his musical tastes. Dick Gaughan, who he played some shows with during the miners' strike, is close to him. Bragg says Gaughan's songs were more political in nature to his ears than those of The Clash, another big influence.
Anyway, I'm back in action after an ext*nded break from aotm for computer issues, and it sure feels good to be mixing and posting again. Unlike most of my efforts, this is not a continuous mix. The zip file contains individual tracks and artwork. Hope y'all enjoy this and others to follow.
What would a return to aotm be without a Quiz? For a copy of this mix with artwork, tell me who is Eliza Carthy's mother? The father is obvious.

Let me be the first to welcome you back and this is a great one. I was going to say Eliza and her old man were my highlights, oh, and Norma Waterson is the trivia answer.

Welcome back! I recognize a few names and a few songs here, though none on the same track. Anxiously awaiting the d/l to finish...

Darn it, I knew the answer. Actually, having previously worked in the Folk (general specialities in truth) section of a Record shop, I know most tracks here and like a lot.
Indeed, welcome back. And I believe you're still waiting on a track for our 2nd alt mix. Oops, it's on its way!

Davy Graham may be barking mad but man can he play guitar (actually that should read could play guitar, cos he's lost the plot now)Like what I see here but man it must have been difficult to compile this, so much top material to choose from!
