Comment:
It's hard to think of an artist (other than the Beatles) who had as consistent a run of amazing records as Neil Young did from 1969 to 1980. This set of discs is a revised (and expanded) version of the four single-disc set that I did six or more years ago. Last tracks cut from these first two discs: "If I Could Have Her Tonight," "The Old Laughing Lady," "Oh, Lonesome Me" and "The Loner."Feedback:
Hard to go wrong with anything here, I do miss the three you left off, but I don't argue with their omission. I assume that is the acoustic Cowgirl in the Sand? Nothing better.
Fantastic!
As far as I'm concerned the grumpy old bastard is a f****** genius no one but no one can match ole Shakey's creative output. Rob I doff me cap to you, my Neil Young collection is vast but I just couldn't even be-gin to carry this one off.
Rob, never got a chance to comment on this, but I'm totally with you on these. One of my favorite artists ever. I'm sure we'd quibble over song sele-ction, but we're pretty much on the same page (though the links to my like-minded 4-cd mix or Neil '65-'80 are tainted). Special kudos for giving some recognition to Time Fades Away, one of my favorite Neil albums which has shamefully never gotten an official cd release.Of course, you'll have to go back to the drawing board when the Archives box comes out in, like, 40 or 50 years at this rate.
