Comment:
Well, it's a quintuple elimination today:97. Queen - Rocks, Vol. 1 [compilation] (1997)
98. The Doors - L.A. Woman (1971)
99. U.K. - Danger Money (1979)
100. The Who - Quadro-phenia (1973)
101. Temple Of The Dog - Temple Of The Dog (1991)
Theme From "The Inner Light" < Footsteps < Quadro-phenia < Angelina
Farewell, Angelina < The Rock < Times Of Trouble < Orchestral Suite From "The Inner Light" - You may notice that the be-ginning of Disc #1 and the en-ding of Disc #2 deliberately mirror each other. :-)
ROCK TRIVIA TIME, FOLKS! - What exactly is the connection between Footsteps and Times Of Trouble??
Did you know that I was a Star Trek fan? :-) Actually I used a piece of music from the Deep Space Nine episode The Visitor way back on MIX #105, so this little bit of personal information you may have already divined! But do you remember the Next Generation episode The Inner Light, in which Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is ren-dered unconscious by an alien probe for almost 25 minutes, during which he has a dream (or vision) that he's living the life of a man named Kamin on some distant dying planet, with a wife and children. As Kamin, he's also a musician, and in this episode he plays this beautifully lilting, almost Celtic melody on a wooden flute. This melody was written by Jay Chattaway, and in my opinion it is the most beautiful piece of music ever written for Star Trek, period - TV or film. Hey, no disrespect to the late Jerry Goldsmith or James Horner or Alexander Courage (main fanfare theme) or all the other composers who have written for Star Trek over the years, but the Inner Light theme is just in a class by itself. And I used two versions of this theme (the shorter one with just flute and piano, and the other longer one with flute and full orchestra) to booken-d this particular mix!
Also, I used the remaining leftover "summary" bits of music from the Who's epic Quadro-phenia double-album. All three tracks I used present all four of the primary themes from the album (Helpless Dancer, Is It Me [For A Moment]?, Bell Boy and Love, Reign O'er Me) used to express the splintered facets of main ch-aracter Jimmy's personality. The title track is a kind of "overture" or exposition, and The Rock is a kind of final recapitulation near the album's en-d. I Am The Sea is actually the album's o-pening track, which is really the sound of the wind and rain and roaring ocean waves, with Roger Daltrey's bare voice (and John Entwistle's French horn) sounding out brief samples of the main themes faintly in the background.
Faith Healer - The Cult covers the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Crawling King Snake < The Only Thing She Needs - I thought I had eliminated L.A. Woman quite some time ago, but I totally forgot to use this John Lee Hooker blues cover! My bad... :-) Also, all the songs from the second U.K. album have now been used up. (True, I did substitute live versions for two tracks on earlier mixes, but I still say it counts! :-))
Thunder Underground / Who's Fooling Who - Nothing from Black Sabbath this time around, but these solo tracks from Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi feature one-half and three-fourths of the classic Sab lineup respectively, so basically everyone's accounted for! :-)
Feedback:
Always liked Thick As A Brick. Congrats on the quintuple elimination!
