Comment:
While not exactly held in terribly high esteem these days, I actually have a fondness for Mick Jones' post-Clash pick-up band. Or at least the first few albums. Though not typically credited as such, their 1985 debut was a surprisingly innovative album, blen-ding guitar pop, dance music, sampling, and hip-hop long before that was viewed as a mainstream-ready approach to making popular music. That and the next pair of albums each had a handful of catchy tunes that were both fun to hum along with and tap your toes to. The sophomore album, with Clash-mate Joe Strummer making a surprising return as producer and co-writer, has some truly great songs, while the third album has oodles of catchy pop ditties. After that began the backslide, with a decreasing amount of wheat among the chaff (though "Rush" is pretty damn undeniable). They steadily declined artistically and commercially, suffering the indignity of having their 1997 finale rejected by the studio and released via free download instead (again, an innovative move at the time). If I have one gripe (setting aside song quality on the later works) it's the production, which is pretty flat in dynamics and lacking the punch the beats deserve.Feedback:

Argentina's Fabulosos Cadillacs wear the influence of both of Mick's bands on their sleeves.
Perhaps not held in high esteem but that doesn't stop me from playing their music often. Great choice for the tribute mix.
I know this sounds crazy, but I never checked these fellas out after hearing their MTV hits (which I can't even recall now) at the time. If you have any interest in passing these along in whatever format you'd like, I'd like to take a listen.
They looked as good as the Clash as well, not easy in the 80's. These days Mick looks like a Pogues reject.
An underrated band. I agree on the production and the downturn in songwriting quality.
a really underated band

Sweet! But no Innocent Child? That's the song that introduced me to the band via alte[r]native radio. Coincidentally, I also made a 2-disc BAD set. I'll upload it soon, one disc at a time. We e[nd]ed up making very similar sel[ect]ions.
I have to differ with you on later song quality, though. I ignored the Big Audio album for years, but once I listened to it I really began to like it. I think it reflects the birth of Mick's child, so it's softer. But Looking for a Song rocks. It might even be my favorite BAD tune. Let me know what you think if you get a chance to see my mix.
