Comment:

Here we have a double-disc mix, booken_ded on both sides by Mr. Dylan. Why? Can't say for sure except that I've been re-reading Bob Dylan Chronicles lately along with the The Way of Life. This is what emerged from that strange brew.

The title comes from the latter book:
The man of stamina stays with the root
Below the tapering
Stays with the fruit
Beyond the flowering
He has his no and he has his yes
~ Lao-Tzu

Quiz: To win a copy of the mix, tracked and with artwork, name the TV show that Dylan refused to appear on rather than comply with censorship.

d/l disc one
d/l disc two

It's too bad that I don't know the answer to the quiz, because I am loving this mix. Particularly the Foster, Gilmore and Alvin tracks (both of them).

The Ed Sullivan Show, of course, already notorious for censoring Elvis from the waist down. Maybe it was a Zen thing . . .

I know very little of side one, but I know you not to make bad mixes. Side two has Jeff, so that automatically makes it good. And Tim too! And Cowboy Junkies! Great front cover as well!

Any mix containing a Chris Smither track immediately grabs my attention.

ah, I missed a Dylan trivia question. But of course Nancy didn't mention that it was Talkin' John Birch Society Paranoid Blues that got him censored, due to some high-ups at CBS being members of the Society themselves. Lookin' in my toilet bowl! Now they are lookin' in their toilet bowl to prove that President Obama is not a US citizen.

Doowad is right, as usual. Just want to add that Dylan walked out of the rehearsals after the CBS brass told him they didn't care for TJBSPB. This added to his image as a rebel, perhaps boosting his career more than an actual broadcast appearance would have.

'Chronicles' is a great read and this looks like a great listen. And its great to be able to post a reply and not a little arrow!
