Comment:

Two hours of droning sonic love from one of the top notch headphone-worthy artists of the past decade and a half. Personally, I'm (very) partial to the first few albums, when Jason Spaceman Pierce continued where classice 80s/90s drone-psych pioneers left off, with fuzzed-out guitar & synth romps, blen-ding psychedelia and Velvet Underground hooks into a joyous mind candy. Disc one covers those two first great albums and the contemporaneous singles, and it's a joy to behold. Disc two picks up with perhaps my favorite album of theirs (and an underrated mid-90s classic), Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space, where he added in some blues and gospel and came up with something of a sonic masterpiece. The first 6 tracks of the album are capture here in their interlinked original running order to avoid spoiling the fun.
He kinda lost me after that, weeding out much of the psychedelic noodling and upping the blues and gospel elements. The next three albums have a few highlights each here, but I'm not a huge fan. And I have to say I really care not at all for this year's release, hailed as something of a heart-wrenching ode to Pierce's own near-death experience. Stark, sure, but not an enjoyable listen.

I saw the kid play not too long ago in a small venue. Thankfully I had earplugs. I mean that in a good way.

I had the same experience as freemethodist, albeit a few years ago. Cool mix. I did one of them in '02... forgetting the title now, but it was sometime in July of that year.

White male, 49, seeking brain candy ... well, this will suffice in the meantime.
