Comment:

Jim's last day with the Chronicle newspaper was also my last day. For him, it had been 36 years there and for me 27. Besides working for the same employer for decades, we also share an enthusiasm for music. He's taken his hobby to a higher level than mine, hosting a radio program for over twenty years at KPOO radio in San Francisco. We had exchanged much music over the years and as a parting gift to me he made 3 CDs of some choice tunes. I decided to distill the set into the mix given here which, in my opinion, is the best of the bunch (it lasts just over 65 minutes and represents about 27% of the 86 tunes he shared with me). If anybody would like to check out Rockin' Jim's "Grinder's Grooveyard" show, you can catch it from 8:30pm-11:30pm, Pacific Time on Monday nights on KPOO radio (89.5) in the San Francisco Bay Area or streaming off the internet at this link

I have yet to listen but the description leads me to believe this may well be the finest mix our pal Joe has brought to AotM. And that's saying a lot because there's been plenty of good ones. My ears are primed.

Terrific set, Joe. loved the Warm Excursions instrumental tune, the Tina Britt opTner and I always enjoy hearing Irma Thomas' "Break-A-Way." Tracey Ullman introduced me to that one w/ her flop 1984 cover (it only reached #70 on the chGrts, as I'm sure you know :).
